Game Over
Dylan Sullivan just got terrible news because he’s never going to play football again. After hearing it, he went to a bar and started drinking. The next day, he wakes up with a hangover… and apparently, eighteen horses he bought while he was drunk. Luckily for Dylan, he also agreed to hire Izzy for the next six weeks to help out on the ranch.
Izzy isn’t very happy right now, and that has everything to do with Dylan. He’s not taking this whole ranch life seriously. Which means she’ll probably be out of a job in six weeks.
Review
Before I begin my review, I’d like to thank Bookouture and NetGalley for the ARC. But of course, as always, I’m giving my honest opinion about this book.
Since I discovered the cowboy romance genre, I’ve been obsessed. I’ve read so many cowboy romances and loved most of them. So when I got the opportunity to review Game Over, I knew I had to apply and it turned out to be exactly the book I needed.
As always, I’ll start with the things I liked (or loved). First of all, the cowboy vibes, obviously. I think I love them so much because we don’t really have that kind of lifestyle here in my country. Although, I recently found out that we sometimes have rodeo events too! I’m definitely going to one of those in the future… and who knows, maybe I’ll meet my own cowboy. 🤠
I also really liked the story and the main characters. Imagine waking up and realizing you bought eighteen horses while drunk and that’s exactly what happens to Dylan, the main character. After losing his football career, he starts drinking, and the next day he wakes up to the sound of eighteen horses. He has no idea what to do, but luckily, Izzy shows up to take care of the horses for the next six weeks — part of the drunken agreement. Unfortunately, Dylan doesn’t take responsibility at first. He basically ignores the fact that there are now horses on his ranch, leaving Izzy to do all the hard work alone. I felt so sorry for her in the beginning. She was working so hard and had no idea whether she’d even have a job in a few weeks.
I did understand why Dylan was acting that way, though. He was lost after losing his football career. it was his passion and his whole identity. But once he started taking responsibility, you could really see what a great man he actually was. He was so kind to Izzy’s daughter, Madison, and even bought a horse that nobody wanted because he felt bad for it.
If I had to mention one thing I didn’t like, it would be Dylan’s behavior right after buying the horses. He kept leaving the ranch every day, ignoring everything, and leaving all the hard work to Izzy. That wasn’t nice at all. I’m glad Izzy stood up for herself, and while I could understand where Dylan’s behavior came from, I still think an adult should always take responsibility for their actions.
Overall, this was such a cute cowboy romance. I really enjoyed reading it! I loved the chemistry between Dylan and Izzy, there was so much yearning, and they made such a sweet couple.
This is the second book in the Oakwood Ranch series by Bella North, but I haven’t read the first one. That’s totally fine though. You can absolutely read this as a standalone.
