Going for Two
Loren and Blake met when they were kids, but they wouldn’t call themselves friends, more like frenemies. Loren and Blake had their first kiss together when they were in school, but after that Blake went chasing other girls and later women. Loren is the more hopeless romantic and doesn’t sleep with everyone. They are each other’s opposites.
But one night, they sleep together and Loren finds out that she is pregnant. They immediately decide to pretend they are fake dating, so it wouldn’t be a scandal if everyone found out that she was pregnant. But could they be more than just frenemies?
Review
This is the second book in the book series, I found this out too late. But honestly, I think you can read this book as a standalone. Before I give you my opinion about this book, I would like to remind you that this is my opinion, maybe you will like this book. I also don’t want to be rude or mean, but this book didn’t give me a lot of reasons why I liked this book.
Let’s start with the Female main character Loren. Blake was her first kiss and since that moment they are just frenemies. She doesn’t trust Blake at all, because he used to be a player, sleeping with every woman in town. But oh boy, this woman was driving me crazy. Blake was actually the nicest main character of the two. She never trusts him that he really likes her. He does everything for her because her pregnancy is not easy. He says he likes/loves her and even then, she still doesn’t believe him. Loren was so insecure and annoying, that I just really didn’t care about her. Her character ruined the whole book for me. And honestly, I think Blake deserved better.
And I think we had to feel sorry for Loren because she had a high-risk pregnancy but honestly, I didn’t care about her. Her character ruined everything for me. It was impossible for me to feel sorry for her because she was on pelvic rest.
This book has an accidental pregnancy trope. I actually think this is the first time, I read a book with this trope. I don’t think I don’t mind it. I think it is hard for me to judge the rest of the book because I was so frustrated with Loren’s character. Although I liked Blake’s character. He really stepped up when they found out that Loren was pregnant. He did everything for her. He was ready to be a co-parent. I felt sorry for him actually because I did not have the feeling that Loren appreciated his gestures.
It is the first time I read one of Marie Veillon’s books and I never judge an author by one book. I mean, I gave Emily Henry several chances even though I didn’t like most of her books. So I might read another book by Marie in the future. Not sure if I want to read the first book in this book series or maybe a completely different book. We’ll see. But unfortunately, this book wasn’t it for me. I really tried. I mean, I finished the book even though it took me two weeks or something. I had high hopes because the cover looked cute and the plot sounded interesting, but I just didn’t like this book. Only because of the main character.
