Review
This is another book I read for my book club. I wasn’t sure what to expect, and I had no idea who the author was, so I basically went in with zero expectations. I didn’t really know what the book was going to be about.
Arianna and Chase have been friends for a long time, and when Chase turns her down during the summer, she starts avoiding him because she can’t face him. One night, she goes to a party Chase isn’t attending, and that’s where she sees Noah again. They start talking, a lot, first mostly through text, but then they begin hanging out in person. Noah is really good at cooking, and he teaches Arianna how to cook. That was so cute and sweet. It’s one of the reasons I liked Noah so much. He was kind, thoughtful, and pretty much the perfect boyfriend.
Noah is the only reason I gave this book three hearts. He’s one of the best fictional boyfriends I’ve read about. I didn’t care much about the other characters. Arianna’s brother was way too annoying and overprotective and I didn’t like that at all. I hated Chase for different reasons. Arianna’s best friend was chill, but not interesting enough to stand out.
I thought the book was slow and a bit boring. I have to admit that even though I was bored, I still wanted to keep reading, mostly because I liked Noah so much and wanted a happy ending for him. This book has 544 pages, and honestly, it could’ve (and should’ve) been a lot shorter. Not much happens until maybe the last 100 pages. Before that, it’s basically 400 pages of how wonderful Noah is. It’s mostly backstory, and 400 pages of that felt too long. It would’ve been much better, in my opinion, if it were at least 100 pages shorter.
Overall, I wasn’t the biggest fan. Like I said, I gave it 3 hearts because of Noah. Without him, it probably would’ve been a 2-star read for me. It’s still better than some truly bad books I’ve read, though. This is the first book in the Boys of Avix series, but I’m pretty sure I won’t read the others. I already have too many books on my list, and I prefer reading the ones I’m genuinely obsessed with.
I was also surprised to find out that this book was a huge TikTok book. I had no idea. When I checked Goodreads, I saw it has a pretty good rating. So yeah… even though I didn’t love it, a lot of other people really did.
