Buy this book on Amazon

Everyone in the Group Chat Dies

Kirby ran away from Crowhurst, and she isn’t the only one. A year ago, she was living in a terrible flat with her roommates. One day, a new flatmate named Esme moved in. She was obsessed with true crime and believed that the real killer from the ’90s was still out there, so she started digging into the case.

Then, one night, Esme disappeared. Kirby tried to find out what had happened to her, but a year later, something strange occurs. Kirby receives a message in their old group chat from Esme, warning that everyone in the group will die.

The only problem? Esme is dead.

Review

I found this book at the bookstore not too long ago, and it sounded really interesting. I had never heard of L.M. Chilton before, but then again, I don’t read a lot of thrillers. Most of the time, if I do, it’s usually something by Freida McFadden. So I went into this with zero expectations. Although with thrillers, I do always hope for that mind-blowing moment.

And I sort of got that mindblowing moment, but it was completely different from what I was expecting. There are two timelines: one set a year ago and one in the present. In the past storyline, Esme arrives in Crowhurst to find out who the real killer from the ’90s was. Then, suddenly, she disappears, and Kirby tries to figure out what happened to her. The present-day storyline follows Kirby returning to Crowhurst after receiving that message from Esme, even though she’s dead.

Esme’s storyline and what happened to her were interesting at first, and I was definitely invested. But honestly, when Kirby finally found out the truth, I felt a bit disappointed. I was expecting something different, maybe something more intense or gruesome. In the end, Esme just came across as a young woman who cared too much about likes and follower counts.

The most interesting part, for me, was definitely the present-day storyline. When I read a thriller or mystery, I want some shocking, bloody moments. I want the killer to be ruthless, I want dead bodies. Luckily, I did get some of that here.

But there is one thing that really bothered me, and it’s not even about the plot; it’s about Kirby. She was terrible at cooking and almost burned down the flat once… but she also burned her salad. Like, how do you even burn a salad? I’m still trying to figure that out. It would have been great if the author had explained that to me.

Overall, it was an okay thriller. Freida McFadden is still my favorite thriller author, that hasn’t changed. But this was also my first book by L.M. Chilton, so I’m not ruling them out yet. There were things I liked about this book, but also things I didn’t. It wasn’t amazing, but it definitely wasn’t the worst either.

The post Everyone in the Group Chat Dies – L.M.
Buy this book on Amazon

Darling Venom

Charlotte Richards went through a lot. She lost both of her parents, and her sister is barely speaking to her. She hit a dark place and doesn’t see a way out. One Valentine’s Day, she goes up onto the roof, ready to jump. But she is not alone, Kellan is there too, also ready to jump. They make a pact to meet on the same roof every Valentine’s Day, just to check on each other. But a few years later, Kellan breaks that promise. When Charlotte is 22, she meets Tate, Kellan’s brother, and they can’t stay away from each other.

Review

I saw this book everywhere, and people recommended it to me as well. So of course, I had to find out what it was about. The blurb sounded very interesting and promising, and I was so ready to read this one.

And it started off very strong. The first chapters are about Charlotte and Kellan wanting to kill themselves and jump from the roof, so it was very intense. Surprisingly, I didn’t cry. I found the story sad, but it didn’t really make me emotional. Maybe that’s because I didn’t have a connection with the characters yet. Although beforehand I was expecting this book to be a real tearjerker. I think I cried only once in total. It just didn’t hit me that hard.

I liked Charlotte. It was hard for me to form an opinion about Kellan, because he committed suicide very early on. But I could definitely tell he had been struggling for a very long time, maybe even his whole life. Tate, on the other hand, was a complicated person. He was kind of rude. Okay, he was struggling, and most people wouldn’t be in the best mood if they were dealing with the same guilt. But still, do you have to be rude to other people? I don’t think a bad mood is an excuse to be angry at others.

The story was mostly sad. Tate and Charlotte were both dealing with their grief. On top of that, Tate was dealing with his father, who was addicted to alcohol. Charlotte was living with her sister, but her sister barely spoke to her because she believed Charlotte was the reason their parents had died. But there were at least a few moments that made me laugh. One was when Charlotte first met Tate—it was a very awkward way to meet him. Another was when Charlotte had an awkward moment during an appointment with Tate as well. I think it was good to include these scenes, because they made the book feel a little lighter overall.

This is the first time I’ve read a book by Parker S. Huntington, but it might not be the last. I’m definitely going to check out her other books and add them to my TBR if any of them sound interesting enough.

Overall, I thought this book was pretty good. I gave it a 4/5 star rating. I rarely give a book 5/5 stars unless it really hits me emotionally or makes me laugh out loud. This book deals with heavy topics like losing both parents, suicide, addiction, and more, so it might not be the right book for everyone. Make sure to check the trigger warnings before reading. That said, I would still recommend it. I also really loved that the chapters were super short—some were only 3–6 pages long, and I actually loved that.

We, as people, care a lot about what others think and how they behave. When we love someone who’s struggling, we want to help them — sometimes even fix them. When we’re around other people, we want to be liked, accepted, and understood. We care about what they say, how they react, and whether we did something wrong.

As we get older, friendships change. Sometimes we lose people we thought would be in our lives forever, simply because we’ve grown in different directions. And yet, we still try to fix it — to hold on, to make it work, to understand what went wrong.

But if I’m honest, it’s exhausting trying to control everything and everyone around me. Constantly worrying about other people’s behavior or opinions can leave you drained and anxious. It’s something I’ve struggled with for years — and I know I’m not alone.

Then one day, I came across a concept by Mel Robbins called the “Let Them Theory.” It completely changed the way I look at people, relationships, and even myself.

What is the Let Them Theory?

The “Let Them Theory” by Mel Robbins is all about letting people be who they are — without trying to control, fix, or change them. If someone wants to walk away, or act differently than you hoped, let them.

It’s not about giving up; it’s about protecting your peace. I’ve learned a lot from this mindset, and I want to share a few examples that really changed how I see things.

We Can’t Control What Other People Say or Think

Everyone is different, and everyone has their own opinions and that’s totally fine. Let them have those opinions.

If you know someone who is toxic and their words affect your mood, don’t try to change them. From experience, it’s impossible to change someone, especially when they have a very negative mindset. But that doesn’t mean you have to spend more time with them. You also have the option to walk away or set boundaries to protect your own peace.

We Can’t Control What Other People Do

Sometimes, people talk behind your back, and when you find out, it hurts. But just let them talk.

I’m not saying you have to accept everything. As Mel Robbins explains in her book, the “Let Them Theory” isn’t the whole thing, it’s more like Let Them and Let Me. If someone talks behind your back, fine, let them. But let yourself walk away from that situation.

Friendships sometimes end, and that happens to everyone. Let them go. Yes, maybe they were important to you, but some things just happen. And the good news is, you can always find new friends who align better with your life and values.

We Can’t Fix Other People

Sometimes the people we care about are struggling, maybe with their health, mental health, or even an addiction. As hard as it is to watch, you have to let them struggle.

When people aren’t asking for help, forcing them can make things worse. A person can only change when they want to. The best you can do is be there for them, listen, and model healthy behavior yourself. For example, it can feel strange telling someone to eat healthier if you’re constantly eating junk food yourself. Your example will speak louder than your advice.

Letting them struggle doesn’t mean you stop caring. It means you respect their autonomy and wait until they’re ready to accept help.

The post What Is the Let Them Theory by Mel Robbins first appeared on A happy life.

It is the beginning of March, which means winter is officially over and it is time for my favorite season: spring. There are so many reason why I love spring, but I love when the sun comes out again and the temperatures are rising again. I start to feel like a brand-new person again.

Things I want to do in Spring

Read more books. I’ve been reading throughout the winter, but mostly in the last hour or two before bed. I can’t wait to sit outside, enjoy the fresh air, and dive into a book with a mocktail (alcohol free cocktail) by my side.

Spend more time outside. Winter is too cold for me, and I prefer staying indoors. But as soon as the temperatures rise, I’ll be outside, going for long walks and enjoying nature.

Buy myself flowers. I love flowers (and plants), and as Miley Cyrus said, I can buy myself flowers. 🌸

Celebrate my birthday. My birthday isn’t until the end of May, but I’m already looking forward to spoiling myself with nice things and having lots of fun.

Romanticize my life. I want to be more present instead of always thinking about what’s next. Taking small moments to enjoy life and make the best of each day and moment is my goal.

Spring cleaning. A fresh start! I can already picture myself putting on a great playlist and deep-cleaning everything. I also plan to declutter and donate whatever I no longer use or wear.

Go thrift shopping. It’s been a while since I last visited a thrift store! I don’t shop often, only when I really need something, but I’d love to browse for cute dresses and experiment with new styles.

Have more self-care Sundays. I love my self-care Sundays—reading, baking, walking, playing with cats, and pampering myself, mostly while staying offline.

Visit outdoor markets. Spring means the return of outdoor markets! I want to visit flea markets, farmer’s markets, and especially the book market (which only happens twice a year and always has a long line).

Celebrate all national holidays. Spring has so many holidays—Easter, King’s Day, Ascension, Whit Sunday, and Whit Monday. I want to celebrate all of them!

Revive my Instagram. Lately, I’ve been focused on video content, but I also love posting photos. It’s been a while since I uploaded anything besides reels, and I miss it. Spring’s colors and beauty will be the perfect inspiration.

Start writing again. I love writing for myself and always have ideas for cute romance stories. This spring, I want to start putting them down on paper again.

Bake more. While autumn and winter are the ultimate baking seasons, I still want to bake a few things this spring—especially for Easter and my birthday.

Try three new foods or drinks. There are always new products popping up at the supermarket, and I want to try a few. Who knows? I might discover a new favorite!

Create more content. I’m back to blogging! After taking a break to rebrand, I’ve decided to keep my blog more personal, and I love it. It feels like the good old days of blogging again.

Play Along

Kennedy is the only woman on staff for the Windy City Warriors and her lead doctor is a sexist man. Kennedy is now ready to land her dream job. She only has to make sure that she is not getting fired by the lead doctor this year.
But when she is in Las Vegas, she runs into Isaiah and other athletes from her team. The next morning when she wakes up, and her memory is fuzzy and she has a ring on her left hand. Kennedy and Isaiah got married in Vegas after having too many drinks.
Isaiah has been obsessed with Kennedy since the day Kennedy joined the team. Back then she was engaged and Isaiah was still dating other women. But the day he found out that Kennedy wasn’t engaged anymore, he stopped dating. Kennedy is now what he thinks about. So he was surprised that morning after they got married. They decide to stay married to save Kennedy’s career, but Isaiah is using this time that he is husband material for her.

Review

This is the fourth book of the Windy City book series by Liz Tomforde and I’ve read them all this year. I am sort of obsessed with these books. They are easy to read, and fun, and the men in these books are just wonderful. Another reason why I love reading these books is that their group of friends/family is getting bigger and bigger and it also feels like I am a part of it. I just love it.

Okay, I have to be honest and say that I was a little bit disappointed when I finished the last book. Not because it was bad or anything. But I really wanted to read Rio’s story. But it was time for Isaiah’s story. Honestly, this might be my favorite book in the series so far. I know that Rio’s story is coming next and I have high expectations for that one. But for now, this might be my favorite.

I love that the male main characters in these books are all tough and cool, but on the inside, they are just sweet. They really listen to their girlfriends, they pay attention and they are just perfect. Okay, nobody is perfect, but you get the point. They are so dreamy.

Kennedy has issues with intimacy because of her last relationship. That man was a shitty man and Isaiah took his time to make sure she was okay with hugging, kissing, and all that. He took it slow. Isaiah has his own struggles because every time it storms he has to make sure that everyone he cares about is okay. He lost his mother in a storm and every time it storms, he feels anxious.

These books are perfect for when you are in a reading slump because they always make me excited to read a little more. If you don’t like spice, these are not the books for you though. But if you don’t have issues with reading spice, then these are the books I would recommend. Because the mail main characters are pretty dreamy. The books are easy to read, you don’t even notice how big the books are. They are all around 400 pages but before you even realize it, you finished the book. You just don’t want to stop reading.

Who would have thought I would be ready for so many sports romance novels this year? But of all those books, these are my favorites, so if you want to read a sports romance, this is the book I would recommend. Although, I would recommend starting with book number one: Mile High. That book has a lot more spice if I remember it correctly. It might also be my least favorite of this series but it was still great.

The post Play Along – Liz Tomforde | Book Review first appeared on A happy life.

Recently I read the book Better Than the Movies and I really liked that book. It was so cute and funny and Lynn Painter is becoming one of my favorite authors right now. The book is about a girl who has a crush on a boy and with the help of her annoying neighbor she is trying to make him fall in love with her. The main character also loves romantic movies and every chapter starts with a quote from a famous rom-com movie in other parts of the book, they mention rom-com movies. So I thought it would be fun to create a list with all of the movies (including a few that are not rom-com movies) that have been named in Better Than The Movies.

It is December and even though I don’t celebrate Christmas by giving and receiving gifts, I thought it would be nice to make a wishlist. There are a few things I want to buy or get soon and other things on my wishlist are less important, but it would just be nice to have those things. Someone can dream, right? This is my wishlist for December 2023. Let me know in the comment section what’s on your wishlist.

My Wishlist

Sweater. I found this sweater on the Primark website and I just love the color and it looks gorgeous and cozy. I have to check it out very soon.

Ring light. I like to make videos and take photos, but the thing is that it gets very dark during the winter months. There are just a few hours of daylight. This ring light would be helpful.

Bed tray table. I think this would be nice for those cozy mornings in bed on a weekend day or when I just want to watch some Netflix in my bed. I don’t have a television, so I always have to watch on my laptop. I can put my laptop on this table.

Chelsea boots. So I am currently looking for new shoes. The last time I bought new shoes was three years ago during the pandemic. I always wear the same pair and I don’t see the point in having too many shoes. But I want to look for new sneakers since my other ones are getting older (after wearing them daily for three years) and I also like to have some Chelsea boots. I used to have a pair like this one and they were fabulous.

Snuddie. Primark has a lot of snuddies and they all look so cozy. The last time I was at the Primark, they did not have snuddies I liked. I want to have something like this snuddie but maybe a different color (black or brown) since gray isn’t my color.

Books. I put one specific book on this wishlist, but to be honest, my book wishlist is very long. I would be very happy with any of those books. I would also be happy with a gift card so I can e-books online.

Samsung Galaxy S23. The most expensive item on my wishlist. I still have the Samsung S8 and it is still working pretty great, but I want to have a phone with a better camera in the future. This is one of the items on my wishlist that I don’t need immediately

Candles. Candles are always nice, especially now it gets dark very early. It gives a little bit of extra coziness.

Electric Kettle. I have one but it needs to be replaced soon. I like this color, but I am also okay if I find one in black or white. I also really like the design of this one.

Wireless earbuds. I have a headphone and I love it. It is not wireless but it works perfectly and it also keeps my ears warm in the colder months. But I realized it is easier to use earbuds on some occasions.

I don’t know about you, but sometimes it can be hard to stay positive. Especially with social media, it is so easy to look around us and compare our lives with theirs. And this can give you that feeling of failing sometimes. You see all those beautiful photos and videos of people who seem to have it all and when you look around you, you do not see the same things. And even though, they don’t have it all and their lives aren’t perfect. This can make it hard to be positive. Or maybe you have been told that you are worthless, ugly or people told you that you were a failure and you want to change your beliefs into more positive ones. This is where affirmations come in.

The last couple of days were not easy for me, I had a lot of negative thoughts. But over the years, I’ve learned some things that help me to deal with negative thoughts. And now I am writing this, I feel amazing. Last night, I even had happy tears. So today I want to share my tips on how to deal with negative thoughts. But before I begin, I would like to say that having negative thoughts is not a bad thing. They can also be very helpful. For example, if you have a lot of negative thoughts about a person who is your friend or your work, maybe it is time to find a new job or a new friend. Negative thoughts are just a part of life, but don’t take them too seriously.

How to Deal with Negative Thoughts

Recognize Negative Thoughts
The first step in dealing with negative thoughts is to become aware of them. Often, negative thoughts enter our minds subconsciously, and we may not even notice them. Pay attention to your thought patterns and identify when you’re experiencing negative thinking. Common signs of negative thoughts include self-doubt, self-criticism, and pessimism.

Challenge Negative Thoughts
Once you’ve recognized negative thoughts, it’s time to challenge them. Ask yourself whether these thoughts are based on facts or if they are merely assumptions and interpretations. Often, our negative thoughts are based on cognitive distortions, such as overgeneralization, catastrophizing, or all-or-nothing thinking. Question the validity of these thoughts and seek evidence to support or contradict them.

Reframe Negative Thoughts
Reframing is a powerful technique for dealing with negative thoughts. Instead of dwelling on the negative aspects, try to find a more positive or balanced perspective. For example, if you catch yourself thinking, “I always mess things up,” reframe it as, “I’ve made mistakes in the past, but I can learn from them and do better in the future.” In most situations, there is something positive as negative. It is up to you from which perspective you approach life.

Practice Mindfulness
Mindfulness involves being fully present in the moment without judgment. It can help you become more aware of your thoughts and feelings, making it easier to manage negative thoughts. When negative thoughts arise, acknowledge them without self-criticism and then let them pass like clouds in the sky. Mindfulness meditation and deep breathing exercises can be useful tools for cultivating this awareness. One thing I have learned is that someone who meditates has fewer mood swings than people who don’t meditate. They are more stable because they are more in control of their thoughts and emotions.

Develop Positive Self-Talk
The way we speak to ourselves can significantly impact our mental well-being. Replace self-critical or negative self-talk with positive affirmations and encouraging statements. Treat yourself with the same kindness and compassion you would offer to a friend. Remember, you are your own best advocate. Be your own cheerleader!

Seek Support
Dealing with negative thoughts can be challenging, and it’s perfectly okay to seek support from friends, family, or a mental health professional. Talking to someone you trust about your thoughts and feelings can provide valuable insights and emotional support. Another way of talking about your life is journaling. I love journaling before I go to bed. It clears my mind which helps me to fall asleep fast and it helps me to realize that my problems are not that big at all. Sometimes you make everything bigger in your mind.

Set Realistic Goals
Setting achievable goals can help you build self-confidence and combat negative thinking. Break your objectives into smaller, manageable tasks, and celebrate your accomplishments along the way. This positive reinforcement can counteract the negativity and boost your self-esteem. If you got good test results or you achieved something at work or in your personal life, celebrate it Don’t go to the next goal immediately.

Engage in Self-care
Taking care of your physical and emotional well-being is essential for managing negative thoughts. Make self-care a priority by getting enough sleep, eating well, exercising, and engaging in activities you enjoy. These practices can improve your overall mood and resilience to negative thoughts. If you got a good night’s sleep, you feel like a different person and it feels like you can do everything. I always notice a big difference between when I am energetic or tired.

Dealing with negative thoughts is an ongoing process that requires self-awareness and practice. Remember that it’s normal to experience negative thoughts, but it’s also within your power to manage them effectively. By recognizing, challenging, and reframing these thoughts, practicing mindfulness, developing positive self-talk, seeking support when needed, and taking care of your overall well-being, you can navigate the storm of negativity and maintain a more positive and optimistic outlook on life. Over time, these strategies can lead to a happier and healthier mindset.

Photo by Anthony Tran on Unsplash

The post How to Deal with Negative Thoughts first appeared on A happy life.

There is one thing I discovered just a few years ago and that is that thrift shopping is a lot of fun. If you had told me this when I was still a teenager, I would have laughed in your face. I always thought that it was disgusting to buy and use secondhand stuff, but I have changed my mind about this. Since I did, I love to go thrift shopping and today I will share my reasons why it is fun and good to thrift shop. Because the fact that everything is so cheap at the thrift store is not the only reason.

Reasons Why It Is Fun And Good To Thrift Shop

Treasure Hunting

Thrifting is a bit like going on a treasure hunt. You never know what gems you might stumble upon as you browse through the racks or shelves of secondhand stores. Vintage clothing, rare collectibles, or unique home decor items are just waiting to be discovered. The excitement of not knowing what you’ll find is what makes thrifting so much fun. It’s an opportunity to uncover hidden gems and create a unique, one-of-a-kind style. One time I found cargo pants and a dress for just a few euros, but when I got home I googled the brands and it turned out they were both worth hundreds of euros.

Affordability

One of the most appealing aspects of thrifting is its affordability. Secondhand items are often significantly cheaper than their brand-new counterparts. This allows you to score quality items without breaking the bank. Whether you’re a student on a tight budget or simply looking to save some money, thrift stores offer a wide range of affordable options for your clothing, furniture, and home decor needs. I have two favorite thrift stores I like to go to. One is super cheap and you can get a T-shirt for 1 euro, and books for a euro. The other one is a little bit more fancy but still extremely affordable.

Sustainable Fashion

Fast fashion has become a major contributor to environmental problems, including pollution and excessive waste. By thrifting, you are participating sustainably. You extend the life of clothing and reduce the demand for new products, which helps reduce the fashion industry’s environmental impact. Thrifting is a practical way to practice eco-conscious consumerism and support a more sustainable world. So the next time you want to buy new clothes, check your local thrift store first.

Unique Style

Thrifting allows you to cultivate a unique and distinctive personal style. You’re not limited to the latest trends and mass-produced items found in mainstream stores. Instead, you have access to a diverse array of clothing and accessories, often from different eras, giving you the freedom to mix and match styles to create your own unique look. Thrifted pieces can help you stand out and express your individuality. I remember a time when most of the girls/women were wearing the same top from Zara. If you want to be more unique, go to a thrift store.

Quality and Durability

Secondhand items often come from an era when products were built to last. You can find high-quality, well-constructed items that have stood the test of time. Vintage pieces are known for their durability and craftsmanship, making them a smart choice for those who value quality and long-lasting products. I see a lot of older furniture at the thrift store and it still looks great. If you are looking for something that will last longer, go to a thrift store.

Reducing Waste

Thrifting is a fantastic way to reduce waste. When you purchase secondhand items, you’re diverting them from landfills and extending their useful life. This helps decrease the overall environmental impact of the fashion industry and promotes responsible consumption. So not only have you bought something nice for yourself or your apartment, but you are also doing something good for the environment.

Supporting Local Businesses

Many thrift shops are local, independently owned businesses. By shopping at these establishments, you’re supporting your community and contributing to the local economy. Your purchases help keep these small businesses thriving, which, in turn, benefits your neighborhood. Most of the thrift stores here are doing more than selling just secondhand stuff. One puts a part of their profit into helping poor families and another store here hires people who would normally never been hired somewhere else.

Thrifting is more than just shopping; it’s an experience that combines the thrill of discovery with the satisfaction of knowing you’re making a positive impact on your wallet, your style, and the environment. From unique fashion finds to eco-conscious choices, thrifting offers countless benefits that make it a genuinely fun and rewarding endeavor. So, next time you’re considering a shopping spree, consider visiting your local thrift store and enjoy the adventure while doing good for yourself and the planet. Happy thrifting!
