As soon as September rolls in, the air changes, crisp mornings, golden leaves swirling in the breeze, and that comforting feeling that cozy days are ahead. Fall has always been my favorite season. It feels like a warm hug after a long summer, a time to slow down and enjoy life’s simple pleasures. If you’re like me and you want to soak in all the autumn magic, here are all the things to love about the fall season.
Things To Love About The Fall Season
1. The Beautiful Nature
Fall is pure magic. Trees turn into a painting of red, orange, and gold, and even the sidewalks feel like a postcard. Everything during these months is so beautiful and so photogenic. I love going for walks in the fall and taking photos of literally everything.
2. Hot Drinks Everywhere
Pumpkin spice lattes, chai tea, hot cocoa, or a classic cup of coffee. Fall is the season where every drink feels cozier. It’s the perfect excuse to grab your favorite mug, sit by the window, and enjoy the little moments. One of my favorite parts of the day is the moment after I wake up, when I sit down with a cup of tea and nothing else. No distractions, just me and my warm tea. The perfect slow start to my day.
3. Baking Season
There’s nothing better than filling your home with the smell of freshly baked treats. Think apple pies, cinnamon rolls, pumpkin bread, and cookies straight out of the oven. Baking in fall feels like therapy. And the best part? Sharing your treats with family or friends. Plus, the baking shows return to TV this time of year. Here in the Netherlands, we have The Great British Bake Off and the Dutch version of the same show.
4. The Coziest Season
Fall is the start of soft blankets, warm socks, and cozy nights in. It’s about lighting candles, putting on a movie or your favorite show, and enjoying the slower pace. It’s the season that reminds you that rest can be productive, too. I love how this season makes me feel safe and comfortable. I love coming home, changing into a comfy outfit, and wearing cozy house socks and oversized sweaters.
5. Reading Season
There’s something about curling up with a good book while it’s raining outside. Fall is the ultimate reading season. Whether it’s a heartwarming romance, a spooky thriller, or your favorite fantasy series, a cozy corner and a warm drink make the experience even better. I even made a whole list of books I want to read this fall and I’m still adding more. There’s nothing like sitting inside with a blanket and a book while a storm rages outside.
6. Fall Fashion
Layers, cozy sweaters, ankle boots, and scarves, fall fashion is the perfect mix of comfort and style. Every outfit looks effortlessly chic with minimal effort. Plus, fall colors are the ones that look best on me, so this is the best season to shop for new clothes. I get why people love summer outfits and bright colors, but honestly? Bright yellow does not look good on me. I need warmer tones that compliment my skin, eyes, and hair.
7. The Smell of Fall
Crisp air, cinnamon candles, and the scent of fallen leaves—autumn just smells different. It’s like nostalgia and comfort all at once, making even the most ordinary days feel special. I love going for walks just to breathe in that fresh, crisp air, especially when it’s raining or right after.
8. Seasonal Activities
Pumpkin patches, apple picking, haunted houses, and fall festivals. This season is full of fun things to do. Even something as simple as a long walk or a scenic drive feels magical when the world is painted in autumn colors. Just because it rains more doesn’t mean you have to be bored—there’s still so much you can do. Personally, I’m looking forward to thrift shopping, maybe a trip to IKEA (always fun!), and visiting bookstores and museums.
9. Comfort Food
Hearty soups, stews, and everything warm and filling start making their way back to the table. Fall is the season to slow down and enjoy homemade meals that make you feel cozy from the inside out. I’ve always loved soup, I think I could eat it every day. But I’ve also found a couple of new recipes I want to try. If you’re looking for inspiration, Pinterest is the perfect place to find cozy comfort food recipes.
10. Slower, Calmer Days
Fall invites you to take a step back from the fast pace of summer. It encourages mindfulness, journaling, spending time offline, and appreciating the little joys around you. I’ve been spending less time online and realized how much time I actually have when I’m not wasting it on random things. Now I feel calmer, more present, and I finally have more time for myself and for reading books.
