Review

There are so many authors out there that I’ve never heard of, and Allison Ashley was one of them. But I love discovering new authors—who knows when you’ll stumble upon a new favorite? Just because someone isn’t all over TikTok doesn’t mean they aren’t amazing. And I think I just found another great one.

The first sentence of this book? Completely unexpected. What a way to start a story! I mean, how could anyone put the book down after that? Not me—I was hooked from the very first page. And it was so funny, which I really appreciated.

Another thing I loved? The author’s background. Allison Ashley works in the medical field, and since the main character, Claire, is a nurse, you can tell she used her own experiences to bring authenticity to the story. It makes me wonder if she’s seen some of the wild things Claire deals with at the hospital in real life!

The storyline itself was adorable. I loved how Graham, bored out of his mind while recovering, started journaling and sending all of his entries to Claire’s old email address. It was such a sweet detail—imagine getting heartfelt messages from someone cute every day. Kind of romantic, right?

The characters were incredibly likable. Honestly, I might have fallen for Graham a little myself. He was charming, thoughtful, and just ugh—so good. Claire was just as great, though she struggled with her feelings. She lost her father, who loved doing reckless things, and she watched her mother live in constant fear because of it. Claire doesn’t want that kind of life. She doesn’t want to sit at home worrying if the person she loves is out there risking their life. And Graham? He’s a firefighter who thrives on adventure. So even though she clearly likes him, she refuses to start a relationship.

This book was adorable. So many cute moments, a great balance of humor and emotion, and just an overall fun read. I highly recommend it!
