The Seven Year Slip

Clementine just lost her grandmother, whom she was very close to, and now she’s moving into her grandmother’s apartment.
There are two simple rules in this apartment:

1. Don’t wear shoes inside.
2. Don’t fall in love.

But this apartment isn’t just an apartment, it’s also a kind of time machine. Sometimes it takes you seven years into the past, and other times seven years into the future.

The same thing happens to Clementine, and that’s how she meets Iwan. He’s staying in the apartment until he finds a place of his own. They spend a lot of time together and share some wonderful moments.

But Clementine can’t fall in love because it’s one of the rules. And besides, Iwan lives in the past. So she can’t fall in love with him… unless she can find him in the present.

Review

I added one of Ashley Poston’s books to my wishlist a very long time ago. I heard YouTubers talking about her books, and they all loved them. Years later, I still hadn’t read a single Ashley Poston book. But the good thing is that I’m in a book club now, and I put The Seven Year Slip on the list, so I was basically forcing myself to read it.

This book has such an interesting concept, and I don’t think I’ve seen anything like it before, which is already a huge bonus point. When you read a lot of books, you notice that some of them tend to have similar plots. But I don’t think I’ve ever read something like The Seven Year Slip before, so I really liked that.

The story was interesting. I mean, imagine living in an apartment that takes you back seven years in time, and suddenly there’s a guy in your living room. Honestly, I couldn’t stop reading. I finished this book in just a few hours on a rainy Sunday. The writing style makes it so easy to read, and the time-travel element keeps it fascinating. I was only surprised that Clementine didn’t tell her friends about the apartment. But then again, would they have believed her? Probably not.

The characters were likable. They’re both very passionate. Iwan loves to cook and really wants to open his own restaurant in the future. Clementine used to paint a lot, but she stopped when her grandmother passed away six months ago. She’s slowly finding her passion again. I feel like they both needed each other because they had both lost a bit of that spark in their lives.

In my reviews, I always share what I liked and what I didn’t like about a book, but in this case, I don’t think there’s a single thing I didn’t like. Still, I gave it 4 out of 5 stars on Goodreads, just because at this moment (my opinion might change) I don’t feel like giving it a perfect rating. But it’s close.

Overall, I really liked this book. I’ll definitely try Ashley Poston’s other books in the future. I think The Dead Romantics has the same kind of magical romance vibe. The Seven Year Slip was an easy and comforting read — the perfect book for a very rainy Sunday.
