Ah, fall. The air gets crisp, the leaves turn into a beautiful canvas of oranges and reds, and pumpkin spice everything takes over the world. Sounds perfect, right? But for a lot of people (myself included!), fall can come with a side of the “blues.” The days get shorter, the sun seems to hide, and that can mess with our mood. So if you’re feeling a little meh as the leaves start to drop, you’re not alone. Here are some tips to beat the fall blues and feel your best this season.

How to Beat the Fall Blues

1. Get Outside (Even If It’s Cold)

Yes, I know it’s tempting to stay wrapped in a blanket with Netflix all day, but getting some fresh air can seriously work wonders. Even if it’s a quick walk around the block, just being outside helps with mood and energy levels. The sunlight might not be as strong, but it’s still there, and it gives your brain a little boost of serotonin (aka your happy chemical). Plus, who can resist stomping on a crunchy leaf? And don’t forget your umbrella, because you never know if it’s going to rain.

2. Embrace the Cozy Vibes

If fall had an official motto, it’d probably be “Let’s Get Cozy.” So, lean into it! Light some candles, grab a soft blanket, and dive into a good book or movie. There’s something about the fall aesthetic—candlelight, warm drinks, fluffy socks—that feels like a warm hug for your soul. It’s okay to hibernate a little (just don’t overdo it and become a full-time couch potato).

3. Move Your Body

It’s no secret that exercise helps with mood, but in the colder months, it’s easy to let that routine slide. The good news is you don’t need a full workout to feel better—just moving around a bit helps! Try stretching in the morning, or put on some music and have a mini dance party in your living room. It’s about getting those endorphins flowing, not turning into a gym rat. And you can even just go out for a long walk, then come home and have a nice cup of tea. This way, you move your body, you go outside and you get cozy when you get home again.

4. Eat Comforting (but Healthy) Foods

Fall is all about comfort foods, and honestly, I’m not saying to avoid them. Bring on the stews, the pies, and all the cinnamon-spiced goodness. But balance it out with some healthy options too! Foods like leafy greens, nuts, and omega-3-rich fish (hello, salmon) can help fight the fall blues. Plus, you’ll feel better when you’re not running purely on sugar and carbs. Maybe you could find a way to combine comfort foods with healthier options. This way you get the best of both worlds.

5. Stay Social

It’s easy to get isolated when the weather cools down. The urge to cancel plans and stay home is real. But staying connected to friends and family is so important. Even if it’s just meeting for coffee or a virtual hangout, social interaction can help lift your mood. You don’t have to be out all the time, but don’t let yourself become a fall hermit either. Watch a movie together, bake something together, or just go shopping. Or maybe get a warm drink at a cute little cafe.

6. Get Creative

Fall is the perfect time to tap into your creative side. Whether that’s journaling, drawing, knitting, or even baking something fun, creating something with your hands can be super therapeutic. It also helps distract you from any lingering blues and gives you something to feel proud of. Plus, you can get into the festive spirit with fall crafts—pumpkin carving, anyone?

7. Plan Things to Look Forward To

One sneaky reason the fall blues hit so hard is because it feels like everything fun is behind us (goodbye, summer!). To combat this, start planning things to look forward to, whether that’s a weekend trip, a Halloween party, or even just a cozy movie night with friends. Having something on the calendar helps break up the monotony and gives you that little extra excitement. Even doing just one little fun thing each day, can lift your mood. Plan the perfect evening for yourself, go read that great book, go watch that movie, or do whatever you like.

8. Take Care of Your Mental Health

If you find that your fall blues are feeling more like seasonal depression (aka Seasonal Affective Disorder or SAD), it’s important to take it seriously. Don’t hesitate to talk to someone or reach out for support. Light therapy, talking to a therapist, or even making small daily changes can make a huge difference. Your mental health is worth the attention. Maybe affirmations can help you or think about the things that excite you. If nothing works, then it might be time to talk to a professional.

Final Thoughts

The fall blues are real, but the season doesn’t have to bring you down. It’s all about finding balance and making small tweaks to your routine. Embrace the cozy, enjoy the beauty of the changing leaves, and take care of yourself—physically and mentally. Before you know it, you’ll be savoring all the things that make fall so special.

There’s something magical about fall. As the air cools and the leaves start to change, the world seems to slow down. It’s like nature is giving us a gentle reminder to take a break, breathe, and just be for a while. If there’s ever a season made for embracing slow living, it’s fall.

But what exactly is slow living? It’s all about being intentional with your time, simplifying your life, and really savoring the moment. In a world that’s always go-go-go, slow living is the antidote to burnout. And fall, with its cozy vibes and natural shift toward reflection, is the perfect time to give it a try.

Here’s why embracing slow living in fall is not only doable but also incredibly beneficial for your mind, body, and soul.

The Benefits of Embracing Slow Living in Fall

1. The Changing Seasons Naturally Encourage Rest

As the days get shorter and the nights get longer, there’s a natural pull to slow down. We’re less inclined to stay out late and more likely to find ourselves craving quiet nights at home. Lean into that. Let the season guide you into a slower rhythm. Instead of fighting it, use fall as a time to rest and recharge before the busy holiday season.

This might mean saying no to plans that drain your energy or setting aside time to unwind in the evenings instead of scrolling through your phone until bedtime. However it looks for you, let the season of slowing down be your permission to take a break.

2. Fall Activities Naturally Support Slow Living

One of the best parts of slow living is reconnecting with simple, joyful activities. And what better season than fall for doing just that? Whether it’s cozying up with a good book, going for a peaceful walk through the colorful leaves, or spending an afternoon baking, fall is full of activities that support a slower, more mindful way of living.

Walking in nature: The crisp air and changing leaves practically beg for long, leisurely walks. Leave your phone behind (or at least on silent) and just take it all in. The simple act of being present in nature is a cornerstone of slow living.

Baking and cooking: There’s something about the cooler weather that makes you want to spend more time in the kitchen. Whether you’re baking bread, making soup, or experimenting with a new fall recipe, slow down and savor the process. Cooking can be a meditative experience if you allow it to be.

Reading: Fall is the perfect time to curl up with a blanket, light a candle, and get lost in a good book. Let yourself fully immerse in the story without any distractions. Reading is one of the simplest ways to slow down and be present.

3. It Reduces Stress and Boosts Well-Being

When we’re constantly on the move, juggling work, social obligations, and all the things on our never-ending to-do lists, stress levels rise. Fall is a natural reminder to pause and prioritize your well-being. By slowing down, you give yourself the chance to relax and recharge, which can have a huge impact on your mental and physical health.

Slow living helps reduce stress because it encourages mindfulness and intentionality. Instead of rushing from one thing to the next, you learn to focus on what truly matters and let go of the rest. When you embrace a slower pace, your mind has time to settle, and your body can find balance. The result? Less stress and more peace.

4. You Reconnect with the Present Moment

When you’re constantly in a rush, it’s easy to go through the motions without really living your life. Slow living helps you reconnect with the present moment. Instead of worrying about the future or replaying the past, you start to notice the beauty in the here and now.

Fall is full of sensory experiences that can help you stay grounded in the present. The smell of freshly fallen leaves, the sound of rain tapping against the window, the warmth of a hot drink in your hands—these little moments can be incredibly grounding if you take the time to appreciate them.

When you’re more present, everything feels richer and more meaningful. You start to notice the little things that bring joy, like the way the sunlight filters through the trees or the comforting warmth of a cozy blanket. By slowing down, you create space for gratitude and mindfulness.

5. It Encourages You to Simplify and Declutter

Fall is a great time to take stock of what’s working in your life—and what’s not. As the season of change, fall naturally invites reflection. Take a look at your commitments, your environment, and your mindset. Are there things you can let go of to make space for more of what matters?

Simplifying doesn’t have to mean a massive life overhaul. It can be as simple as decluttering your home, saying no to things that drain your energy, or being more intentional with how you spend your time. The goal is to create more ease and less overwhelm.

Start small: clear out your closet, organize your space, or set some healthy boundaries around your time. By simplifying, you free up mental and physical space for the things that bring you joy and fulfillment.

6. You Create Deeper Connections

Slow living isn’t just about your relationship with yourself—it’s also about how you connect with others. In the hustle and bustle of everyday life, it’s easy to let meaningful connections slip through the cracks. When you slow down, you have more time and energy to nurture your relationships.

Fall is the perfect time to invite friends or family over for a slow, cozy evening. Cook a meal together, sit around the table, and actually talk without distractions. By embracing slow living, you create space for deeper, more intentional conversations and connections.

In a world that’s constantly pushing us to go faster, slow living is a powerful way to reclaim your time, energy, and well-being. And fall, with its cozy vibes and natural sense of slowing down, is the ideal time to give it a try. Whether it’s taking more mindful walks, simplifying your space, or just spending more time being present, slow living can help you feel more grounded, connected, and at peace.

So this fall, why not hit pause and embrace the beauty of slowing down? Your mind, body, and soul will thank you.

How are you planning to slow down this fall? Let me know in the comments! 🍂

Ah, fall. The season of cozy sweaters, warm drinks, and that perfect chill in the air. There’s something about the crispness of fall that makes it the perfect time to slow down, unwind, and give yourself a little extra selfcare. As the days get shorter and the leaves start to change, it’s a great opportunity to focus on self-care and recharge before the winter hustle hits.

If you’re looking to create a self-care routine that’s all about soaking in those autumn vibes, I’ve got you covered. Here’s how to create the ultimate fall self-care routine, complete with everything from meditations to baking (because what’s fall without the smell of something delicious in the oven?).

Creating the Perfect Fall Self-Care Routine

1. Start with Cozy Mornings

There’s nothing like waking up to a crisp fall morning, and a peaceful start to your day can set the tone for everything else. Try waking up a little earlier so you can enjoy the quiet. Make yourself a warm cup of tea, coffee, or a pumpkin spice latte (you know you want to!). Sit by the window and watch the world wake up.

This is also a great time to do a short meditation or some light stretching. Apps like Insight Timer or Calm have some great guided meditations specifically for morning mindfulness. Even just 5-10 minutes of meditation can help you start the day feeling grounded and calm.

2. Get Outside and Soak in the Fall Air

Fall walks are everything. There’s nothing quite like the crunch of leaves underfoot or that chilly breeze that reminds you winter is coming but not here yet. Walking outside in nature is such a simple but powerful way to practice self-care. Whether you head to your local park, take a hike, or just stroll around your neighborhood, use this time to unplug from your phone and just be.

If you really want to get into the fall spirit, bring a thermos of hot cider or tea with you! Bonus points if you find a path with all those gorgeous fall colors.

3. Read Something Cozy

Fall is the ultimate reading season. There’s nothing better than curling up with a blanket, lighting a candle, and diving into a good book. Whether you’re into mysteries, romance, or some good old fantasy, pick a book that feels cozy and comforting.

If you’re not sure what to read, here are some perfect fall recommendations:

“The Night Circus” by Erin Morgenstern – magical, atmospheric, and fall-friendly.

“Practical Magic” by Alice Hoffman – A little witchy, a little romantic—perfect for spooky season.

“The Pumpkin Spice Cafe” by Laurie Gilmore – A dark academia classic that screams fall vibes.

Set aside some time in the evenings or on a lazy Sunday afternoon to fully immerse yourself in a good read. Bonus: make it a book nook situation by adding string lights, a fluffy blanket, and your favorite fall drink.

4. Bake Something Delicious

Fall baking is one of life’s simple pleasures. Not only do you get to enjoy the process of creating something, but your whole house will smell like cinnamon and spice! Pick a fall recipe like pumpkin bread, apple crisp, or cinnamon rolls, and spend an afternoon baking away. You don’t have to be a professional baker to enjoy it—it’s all about the experience, not perfection.

If you’re short on time, try a simple recipe like roasted spiced nuts or a quick batch of pumpkin muffins. Either way, the act of baking is a great way to slow down, get creative, and treat yourself to something homemade and delicious.

5. Indulge in a Fall-Themed Self-Care Night

Carve out some time for a fall-inspired self-care evening. Here’s a little guide to help you plan the perfect night:

Light fall-scented candles – Think warm vanilla, cinnamon, or woodsy scents.

Take a bath – Drop in a bath bomb or some Epsom salts (bonus points if they’re fall-scented), and soak in the warmth.

Watch a fall movie – My top picks? When Harry Met Sally, You’ve Got Mail, or Hocus Pocus for some nostalgic fun.

Apply a face mask – Treat your skin to some TLC as the weather cools down. A hydrating mask with ingredients like honey or pumpkin will leave you feeling refreshed.

Once you’ve set the mood, settle in with a soft blanket, a warm drink (hello, hot chocolate or chai tea!), and fully relax. This is your time to recharge.

6. Try Fall-Themed Journaling or Gratitude Practice

Fall is a season of change, and it’s the perfect time to reflect and set intentions before winter. Try setting aside a few minutes each day to write in a journal or practice gratitude. You could make a list of things you’re thankful for, reflect on the past few months, or set new goals for the season.

Gratitude is one of the easiest ways to boost your mood, and fall is full of little things to appreciate—cool weather, cozy clothes, warm drinks, and time with loved ones.

7. Craft Something Autumn-Inspired

Feeling creative? Embrace your inner artist and do a fall craft. It could be something simple like making a wreath with dried flowers, painting pumpkins, or creating some DIY fall décor. Crafting is a great way to express yourself and take your mind off stress, you end up with something cute to decorate your space with!

Fall is the perfect season to slow down and show yourself some love. Whether it’s reading, baking, taking walks, or simply enjoying the beauty of the changing leaves, incorporating these self-care activities into your routine can help you feel more grounded and connected to the season. So go ahead—wrap yourself in a blanket, sip on something warm, and give yourself permission to enjoy every moment of autumn!

I don´t know what the weather is like where you live, but here it feels like the fall started today. It´s been raining all morning, it is so dark I have to turn on the lights during the day and I can hear the wind. I can safely say that I have a love-hate relationship with fall. Okay, maybe hate is a strong word. There are things about the fall I dislike. But I prefer to focus on the positive side of life. And there are still so many things to love about the fall. If you are struggling with the fact summer is really over now, don’t worry. I got your back. I will help you to start appreciating this season with this list.

Things to love about the fall

Nature is extremely beautiful
The fall is probably the most colorful season. The leaves are changing from green to all kinds of colors, especially during the golden hour (sunset) everything looks so pretty. And there are fungi everywhere. I definitely think that this season is very photogenic. It is the perfect season to go outside and take beautiful photos when the sun is shining.

Warm beverages
During the warmer months, I mostly drink just water. But now it is getting colder and I am slowly shifting from cold water to warmer beverages like tea and hot chocolate drinks. There is nothing better than coming home from work on a rainy/windy day and making yourself a nice cup of tea or hot chocolate. On the weekends, I like to go outside and when I get home I always make myself something warm. I can really appreciate those little moments.

Fall Fashion
This might be my personal opinion, but I think Fall fashion is the best. That is probably because I am one of those people who look best in warmer and darker colors ( I am an autumn/fall color type). So that is why I prefer shopping during these months. And Fall is not just the best because of the warmer colors, it is also better because of the items. I love a good comfy sweater during the colder months. And I am the biggest fan of those comfy thick socks they are selling during these months.

Cozy Season
Fall is the cozy season. It is not too cold to go outside, but people prefer to stay at home at night. And I agree. But I always make sure I turn my apartment into a cozy place. I like to buy candles and I get a cozy blanket I can use whenever I am sitting on the couch or in my reading chair (my Papasan chair). I also decided years ago to buy Christmas lights and hang them up on the wall. It gives a completely different vibe than just turning on a lamp. This looks super cozy.

Start preparing for the Holidays
Christmas might seem far away, but before you know it it is December. And October/November are really good months to start preparing for the holidays. I am talking about buying the decorations for your house. From my personal experience, most of the good stuff is already gone and sold out at the stores in December. And starting buying gifts for Christmas is a good idea as well because now you have the time. December is always really busy.

Reading season
If you are like me and like to read, you will know that this is the best time to read. If you want to start reading books, this is the time. Imagine yourself sitting in a chair or on your couch with a blanket, a cup of tea, and a book or your e-reader on a rainy/windy day. I really love those kind of days. It is super cozy and relaxing. The perfect way to forget all of your problems. And if I am being honest, I am also super excited because this is the time of the year that Christmas-related books are being released. I love those books. If you have no idea what you want to read, I have a whole page with reviews of the books I read. You can find the page here.

Halloween
We don’t really celebrate Halloween here in my country. I feel like Halloween is a typical American holiday. But a few years ago, I started my own Halloween tradition. I watched one Halloween-related movie on Halloween. Usually, I like to watch romance/comedy movies, but for Halloween, I make an exception. I also like to read a more scary or Halloween-related book that week as well. But maybe there is a Halloween party near you or maybe you can start your own Halloween Movie night with your friends.

Comfort food
During the colder months, you probably eat more comfort food, and so do I. And sure, most people think about Junk food when they think about comfort food but it doesn’t always have to be unhealthy. There are tons of healthy recipes for comfort food. Here in my country we like to eat mashed potatoes mixed with veggies (it is called ‘stamppot’). It is very simple, but still pretty delicious. Or I like to make lots of soup because that is really my kind of comfort food.

As you can read, there are so many great things to love about the Fall. And since you can’t change the season or the weather, it is better to embrace it and make the most of it. I think years ago, I really hated these darker months, but slowly I changed my mindset about it and now I can actually every single season. Every season is beautiful.
