Kinda Pregnant

Lainy was expecting a proposal, but instead he suggested a threesome and she immediately dumped him. Now Lainy’s best friend is pregnant and one of her other colleagues as well. Suddenly she feels left out. She puts on a fake baby bump and suddenly she is getting a lot of positive attention from people. So she starts a lie that she is pregnant and meets her dream man.

Review

With Valentine’s Day around the corner, of course, I had to watch a new rom-com. I went in with zero expectations, especially after seeing a post on Threads where someone mentioned they had high hopes but ended up disappointed. I usually try to avoid other people’s opinions before watching a movie so I can form my own, but this time, Threads practically shoved it in my face.

Now that I’ve seen it, I wouldn’t say I’m disappointed, but would I watch it again? Probably not. The plot itself had a lot of potential—it was a fun and interesting concept—but the execution fell flat. There were definitely some enjoyable and funny moments, but overall, I’d rate it a 3 out of 5 stars.

Some of the highlights? The little kid, Connor, finds out the pregnancy is fake, and Lainy tries to keep him quiet—that was a great scene. The romance storyline was solid, and I loved seeing Brianne Howey in this. She brought great energy to the film. As for the acting, it wasn’t bad at all—I’ve seen much worse.

But then there were those moments. The cringy, over-the-top scenes made me physically uncomfortable. There’s a fine line between a funny joke and secondhand embarrassment, and this movie crossed it a few times. I get that making a genuinely good rom-com is tough—it’s been a while since we’ve had a really great one—but some of the humor here just didn’t land.

I’ve definitely seen worse movies, but by the end, I couldn’t shake the feeling that I’d wasted my time. It had the potential to be great, but some of the jokes dragged it down. That said, at least I went in with zero expectations—so I guess I can’t be too let down. But would I recommend it? Probably not. I would recommend reading a good book instead and not wasting your time, I already did that for you, so I could write this movie review.
