Title: Regretting You
Actors: Allison Williams, McKenna Grace, Dave Franco
Director: Josh Boone
Writers: Colleen Hoover, Susan McMartin
Genre: Drama, Romance
Length: 1 hour and 56 minutes
My Rating: ❤️❤️❤️🖤🖤

Regretting You

When Morgan was young, she was dating her boyfriend Chris, and she was best friends with Jenny, her sister, and Jonah. Then Morgan got pregnant with Clara, and she and Chris married young. Now, seventeen years later, they look like the perfect, happy family.

But Morgan discovers a huge secret when Chris and Jenny die in a car accident, and it turns her whole life upside down. At the same time, she doesn’t want her daughter Clara to know the truth about her father. Clara adored her father and Jenny—it would ruin her.

Review

I started doing my Saturday night movie nights again, and this time I decided to watch this movie. It has been on my watch list for a long time, and I was curious to finally see it. I hadn’t read the book before watching the movie. In fact, I had no intention of reading the book, but I did want to watch the movie.

First of all, the realization that these actors are now old enough to play the parents of a teenage daughter is mind-blowing and a bit shocking. In my mind, we all stay young, and I sometimes still think that I am too immature to be a parent. But my age says otherwise. The fact that these actors are now playing the role of parents was an eye-opening moment, haha.

I have mixed feelings about the movie. There were some good things, but I also had moments when I thought they could have done it better. But let’s start with the positive things.

The actors were pretty good. I think this is the first movie I’ve seen with Mckenna Grace in it. I’ve heard about her before, but I don’t remember seeing a movie with her in it. The only thing I could think about, though, was how similar she is to Kiernan Shipka. Not just the looks—they have the same kind of energy. And of course, I already knew Dave Franco and Scott Eastwood from other movies, and they didn’t let me down. The acting was good.

The only thing I have some issues with is the story. The story is about Chris and Jenny, and they have a secret that Morgan finds out about pretty quickly. The moment they die, the secret is revealed, and then the rest of the movie is basically about Morgan keeping that secret from her daughter to protect her. But that’s the whole movie. I was expecting a little bit more. Maybe it would have been better if the secret had been revealed later in the story. If a movie revolves around a secret and then reveals it within the first 30 minutes, the rest of the movie can start to feel a bit pointless.

I’m not saying I thought this movie was terrible, but I did keep wondering if that was it. I think I was expecting a little bit more. I also wonder if the book might be a bit more interesting.

Overall, it was just an okay movie for me. The acting was good, but I think the story was lacking something. I hope the next Colleen Hoover book-to-movie adaptation will be better. That movie is called Reminders of Him, and I saw the trailer—it sounded pretty interesting. It’s also on my watchlist, so hopefully you’ll be able to read a review of that movie here on my blog soon.

The post Regretting You (2025) | Movie Review first appeared on A happy life.

The post Regretting You (2025) | Movie Review first appeared on A happy life.

It Ends With Us

Lily Bloom did not have the best experience growing up. Her father was very abusive towards her mother. So when her mother wants Lily to give an eulogy at her father’s funeral, she has nothing good to say about him and leaves. The same night, she finds a rooftop where she meets Ryle Kincard. They immediately fall in love and start dating. Everything goes well for her. Lily Bloom opened her own flower shop, she in a great relationship, and has amazing friends.
But that doesn’t last for long. Lily sees Atlas again, the boy she fell in love with when she was younger. He now has his own restaurant, just like he wanted. The next time Lily shows up at his restaurant again, she has a black eye. It was just an accident Lily tells him, but Atlas does not believe her. He thinks that Ryle is abusive, just like Lily’s father. He tells her to run away from that relationship.

Review

The book (written by Colleen Hoover) was published in 2016 and I think I read the book as soon it was published. I think it was also the first book I’ve ever read by Colleen Hoover. Since that moment, I’ve only read one other book by Colleen Hoover (December 9). Her books are not easy to read. It is always about heavy stuff. And the people who tell you that her books are romance novels are wrong. Even on IMDB, it says that this movie is a romance/drama. But I am not sure if I would call it romance. Most of the time Romance is cute and makes you feel happy and good. This movie was heavy because it is about a toxic relationship.

It had been years since I read the book, so I kind of forgot the details of this book. But I remembered certain things. I think they did a pretty great job with this adaptation. I even heard someone saying that they prefer the movie over the book. I am not 100% sure if I would agree with that. But I can admit this movie was pretty good.

In the beginning, when Ryle becomes abusive, everything looks like an accident. They filmed it that way. So as a viewer, you also start believing that the first black eye was an accident. Later in the movie, when Lily remembers the truth, you’ll also see what truly happened.

I think they did a great job on the casting. I was mostly impressed with Brandon Sklenar. His character Atlas was my favorite one. And even though the movie is over two hours long, it didn’t feel that long to be honest. I liked that they showed clips from Atlas & Lily’s past. To be honest, I like their story.
The only thing that bothered me was that this movie didn’t evoke a lot of emotions. I remember when I was reading the book, I really felt what she was going through. I did not feel that way about this movie. I believe it was so much worse in the book. That book made me cry if I remember correctly.

Overall, I think it is a good movie about domestic violence, but they could have done it a little bit better by showing it. I wanted to feel the fear Lily was experiencing. It could have been a little bit more dramatic. I mean it’s not about the love story. It is about a toxic relationship. Let’s not romanticize that. I saw from other reviews that they left out a lot of details from the book. But because I read the book a very long time ago, I did not really notice.

The post It ends with us | Movie review first appeared on A happy life.

The post It ends with us | Movie review first appeared on A happy life.
