The other day, I was thinking about how life is moving way too fast these days. For me, it feels like Christmas and New Year’s Eve weren’t that long ago. But I blinked once, and suddenly it’s April. As I’ve gotten older, I’ve often felt like time is moving faster than it used to. And even though there will always be moments when life speeds by, there are also ways to slow down time.

How to Slow Down Time

Start Noticing Small Moments
Time feels fast when everything blends together. When nothing stands out, your brain doesn’t “store” the moments. But as soon as you start noticing the “little” things, time begins to slow down. Use all of your senses to take in what’s around you, the birds you hear singing, the sunset you see, the warmth or cold you feel, depending on the weather. When you start living in the present, it will feel like time is moving more slowly than usual.

Stop Rushing Everything
We live in a society where everyone is always busy, and even on the weekends, we are constantly rushing. We rarely slow down. But slowing down can actually help. Slowing your actions tells your brain: we’re not in a hurry. And suddenly, time doesn’t feel like it’s running away from you. So try to live a simpler life and slow down. Slow living is a very popular lifestyle these days; it simply means taking your time with each task you do.

Break Your Routine (Just a Little)
Routine makes life efficient, but also forgettable. So switch things up every now and then. You don’t have to change everything every day, but you can do small things differently, like taking a different route to work or planning something instead of watching Netflix all night after work or school. New experiences make time feel fuller and longer.

Live in the Present Moment
We are often thinking about the past or worrying about the future. Because of that, we forget to live in the now, the present moment. But life is only happening right now. There are several ways to train your brain to be more present, such as mindfulness and meditation.

Try Something New
Trying something new forces you to be present. It requires your full attention, which naturally slows down your perception of time. Think about how slow time sometimes felt when you were a child—that’s because you were constantly learning and experiencing new things. When everything is familiar, your brain goes on autopilot. But when something is new, your mind becomes more aware and engaged. So step out of your routine once in a while. Try a new hobby, visit a new place, or learn something you’ve never done before. It doesn’t have to be big—just different.

Create Intentional Moments
If you don’t create moments, life will simply pass by. Start romanticizing your life. Be the main character of your own story. Light a candle in the evening, watch the sunrise, dance while making dinner, listen to your favorite playlist during a walk, or buy yourself flowers.

Put Your Phone Down More Often
One of the biggest reasons time feels like it’s moving faster than ever is because we are constantly on our phones. We forget to truly live and end up scrolling for hours. You can lose so much time without even noticing. And afterward, it doesn’t feel like time well spent; it feels wasted. Try to reduce your screen time and only use your phone when you really need it.

In a world where society expects us to balance a work life, family life, social life, and personal life, a new trend is emerging, or maybe it’s just my algorithm. Either way, I’m really enjoying it. I love my weekends when I don’t have many plans and can simply slow down.

In this blog post, I will briefly explain what it is and how you can implement it in your daily life.

What is Slow Living?

I mean, this may not come as a surprise, but slow living means slowing down and doing less. Whenever I go outside, I see so many people rushing, going to work, doing grocery shopping, heading to the gym, shopping for clothes, and trying to maintain a social life all in one day.

With slow living, you decide what is truly important to you and take your time doing those things. Instead of trying to do everything at once, you focus on one task and move on to the next when you’re finished.

Slow living also means taking the time to enjoy the little things, like a simple cup of tea. It helps you become more present and appreciate the moment you’re in.

How To Slow Down

No screens before a certain time
The way you start your day sets the tone for the rest of it. If you wake up and immediately start scrolling on your phone, you often end up rushing because you’re running late. Try putting your phone away, you don’t need it first thing in the morning. Take your time to get ready and enjoy the quiet, peaceful start of the day (unless, of course, you have kids—then it might be a bit more chaotic). Reducing screen time, especially in the morning, can help you feel calmer and more in control. It allows you to start your day with intention instead of reacting to notifications and information overload.

One task at a time
Some people believe multitasking is efficient, but research suggests otherwise. You might feel like you’re getting more done, but in reality, you’re more likely to make mistakes. Then you have to go back and fix them, which actually costs you more time. Focusing on one task at a time helps you slow down and be more present. You’ll often notice that your work improves and you feel less overwhelmed.

Practice mindfulness
Mindfulness helps you stay present, which is exactly what you need when you’re trying to slow down. Instead of thinking about the past or worrying about the future, mindfulness brings your attention back to the present moment. You can practice mindfulness in simple ways: by focusing on your breathing, paying attention while you eat, or fully engaging in whatever task you’re doing. Even a few minutes a day can make a difference. Over time, it can help quiet your mind and reduce the urge to overthink.

Take intentional breaks
Slowing down doesn’t mean doing nothing, it means giving yourself space to recharge. Taking short breaks throughout the day can help reset your mind and improve your focus. Go for a short walk, stretch, or just sit quietly for a few minutes. These small pauses can make a big difference in how you feel.

Do less in a day
You don’t have to fill every hour of your day to be productive. In fact, doing less often helps you do things better. Try to limit your to-do list to a few important tasks instead of overwhelming yourself with too much. Give yourself permission to slow down and focus on what truly matters.

Allow yourself to be bored
We are so used to constant stimulation, phones, music, videos, that being bored can feel uncomfortable. But boredom is actually good for you. It gives your brain space to rest, process, and even be creative. You don’t always have to “fill the silence.” Sometimes, doing nothing is exactly what you need.

Find slow hobbies
Slow hobbies can help you relax and be present. Think about activities like reading, journaling, gardening, drawing, or even cooking. These hobbies don’t rush you, they encourage you to take your time and enjoy the process instead of focusing only on the result.

Go for a walk in nature
Spending time in nature can be very calming. Going for a walk outside, whether it’s in a park, a forest, or just a quiet street—can help clear your mind. It gives you a break from screens and noise, and it allows you to slow down naturally.

Set boundaries with your time
You don’t have to say yes to everything. Protecting your time and energy is important if you want to live a slower, more intentional life. It’s okay to say no to plans or commitments that feel overwhelming.

Create simple routines
Having a simple daily routine can help bring more calm into your life. Small habits, like making your bed, drinking tea in the morning, or reading before bed, can create a sense of stability and slow things down.

Limit information overload
We consume so much information every day, news, social media, messages. Try to be more intentional about what you consume. You don’t need to know everything all the time. Reducing input can help quiet your mind.

For the longest time, I felt like I was always behind. Behind on life, behind on goals, behind on some invisible timeline everyone else seemed to understand. My days were full, but somehow I still felt empty and tired. Even the things I loved started to feel rushed.

Slowing down wasn’t something I planned to do. It kind of happened out of necessity. I was exhausted, mentally, emotionally, physically. And once I finally allowed myself to take my foot off the gas, I realized something important: life feels a lot nicer when you’re not constantly running through it. Slowing down doesn’t mean giving up or becoming lazy. It means choosing to live more intentionally. And honestly? It changed everything for me.

Why Slowing Down Is So Good for You

When you slow down, your nervous system gets a break. Your mind becomes clearer, your body feels safer, and your emotions feel less overwhelming. You start enjoying small moments again instead of constantly waiting for the “next thing.”

Some simple benefits of slowing down:

Less stress and anxiety

Better sleep and more energy

More joy in everyday moments

A deeper connection with yourself

Feeling more present instead of constantly distracted

Life doesn’t suddenly become perfect, but it does become quieter, softer, and more manageable.

Simple Ways to Slow Down (Without Changing Your Whole Life)

1. Start your day slower: Instead of immediately grabbing your phone, give yourself a few minutes of calm. Stretch in bed, make your tea or coffee without rushing, or just sit quietly for a moment. The way you start your day sets the tone for everything that follows. A slow morning tells your body that you’re safe and not in a rush, which can lower stress for the rest of the day.

2. Do one thing at a time: Multitasking makes everything feel chaotic. Try focusing on one task, eating without scrolling, listening to music without doing something else, or fully watching a show instead of half-watching. Being present helps your brain relax. You actually enjoy things more when your attention isn’t split in ten different directions.

3. Put your phone away (more often than feels comfortable): You don’t have to disappear from the internet, but small boundaries help. Leave your phone in another room while reading, cooking, or resting. Constant notifications keep your brain in a state of alert. Less screen time means more mental space and fewer racing thoughts.

4. Give yourself permission to rest: Rest isn’t something you have to earn. You’re allowed to sit down, do nothing, and just exist — even if your to-do list isn’t finished. Why it helps:Rest helps your body recover and your mind reset. When you stop pushing yourself nonstop, you actually have more energy later.

5. Romanticize the small moments: Light a candle while eating dinner. Use your favorite mug. Play soft music in the background. Make ordinary moments feel special. When you slow down enough to notice the little things, life feels fuller, even on the most boring days.

6. Say no more often: You don’t have to do everything or be everywhere. It’s okay to cancel plans, leave early, or choose yourself. Protecting your time and energy creates space for what truly matters to you.

7. Let go of the rush to “figure it all out”: You don’t need a five-year plan. You don’t need to know exactly where you’re going. Life unfolds at its own pace. When you stop pressuring yourself to have all the answers, you allow yourself to actually live instead of constantly worrying about the future.

As a kid, it felt like there were so many hours in a day—some school days even felt like they would never end. But everything started to change once I became an adult. I’m sure I’m not the only one struggling to balance all the things you have to do while still trying to find time for yourself and actually enjoy life. So here’s how to make more time for fun things.

Taking time for yourself is important for so many reasons. You can only take care of others when you’re also taking care of yourself—something I always say, and it’s true. When you forget to get enough sleep, eat well, or find ways to de-stress, life becomes a lot harder.

How To Make More Time For Fun Things

1. Spend less time on your phone
Let’s start with the obvious—our phones take up a lot of our time. Some people have a healthy relationship with their devices, and that’s great. But others spend hours a day scrolling. Just imagine what you could do if you cut down your screen time. I remember one time I went offline for a whole week and was shocked by how much I got done. Suddenly, I had so much time in my day just because I wasn’t glued to a screen.

2. Stop multitasking
This one might sound strange at first. You’d think multitasking would help you get more done in less time—but actually, research shows the opposite. It often leads to more mistakes and less focus. So try focusing on one task at a time. You’ll probably find that you get things done faster and better.

3. Set priorities
Start by asking yourself: What are the most important tasks on my to-do list today? Are there things that can wait? Sometimes it feels like work, house chores, and social obligations are the top priorities—and sure, they matter—but you matter too. Don’t forget to make yourself a priority. Is it really the end of the world if the laundry doesn’t get done today? Probably not. Try carving out time for yourself the same way you’d schedule any other important task.

4. Change your mindset
We live in a world where being constantly busy is often seen as a badge of honor. People rush around with packed schedules—even weekends are filled with sports, events, and errands. Not necessarily because they have to, but because it feels weird to do nothing. Many people feel like they must be productive all the time, or else others will think they’re lazy. But it’s time to shift that mindset. It’s okay to slow down. It’s okay to do absolutely nothing on a Sunday. Life isn’t a productivity contest. Constant busyness isn’t sustainable—and burnout isn’t worth it.

There’s something magical about fall. As the air cools and the leaves start to change, the world seems to slow down. It’s like nature is giving us a gentle reminder to take a break, breathe, and just be for a while. If there’s ever a season made for embracing slow living, it’s fall.

But what exactly is slow living? It’s all about being intentional with your time, simplifying your life, and really savoring the moment. In a world that’s always go-go-go, slow living is the antidote to burnout. And fall, with its cozy vibes and natural shift toward reflection, is the perfect time to give it a try.

Here’s why embracing slow living in fall is not only doable but also incredibly beneficial for your mind, body, and soul.

The Benefits of Embracing Slow Living in Fall

1. The Changing Seasons Naturally Encourage Rest

As the days get shorter and the nights get longer, there’s a natural pull to slow down. We’re less inclined to stay out late and more likely to find ourselves craving quiet nights at home. Lean into that. Let the season guide you into a slower rhythm. Instead of fighting it, use fall as a time to rest and recharge before the busy holiday season.

This might mean saying no to plans that drain your energy or setting aside time to unwind in the evenings instead of scrolling through your phone until bedtime. However it looks for you, let the season of slowing down be your permission to take a break.

2. Fall Activities Naturally Support Slow Living

One of the best parts of slow living is reconnecting with simple, joyful activities. And what better season than fall for doing just that? Whether it’s cozying up with a good book, going for a peaceful walk through the colorful leaves, or spending an afternoon baking, fall is full of activities that support a slower, more mindful way of living.

Walking in nature: The crisp air and changing leaves practically beg for long, leisurely walks. Leave your phone behind (or at least on silent) and just take it all in. The simple act of being present in nature is a cornerstone of slow living.

Baking and cooking: There’s something about the cooler weather that makes you want to spend more time in the kitchen. Whether you’re baking bread, making soup, or experimenting with a new fall recipe, slow down and savor the process. Cooking can be a meditative experience if you allow it to be.

Reading: Fall is the perfect time to curl up with a blanket, light a candle, and get lost in a good book. Let yourself fully immerse in the story without any distractions. Reading is one of the simplest ways to slow down and be present.

3. It Reduces Stress and Boosts Well-Being

When we’re constantly on the move, juggling work, social obligations, and all the things on our never-ending to-do lists, stress levels rise. Fall is a natural reminder to pause and prioritize your well-being. By slowing down, you give yourself the chance to relax and recharge, which can have a huge impact on your mental and physical health.

Slow living helps reduce stress because it encourages mindfulness and intentionality. Instead of rushing from one thing to the next, you learn to focus on what truly matters and let go of the rest. When you embrace a slower pace, your mind has time to settle, and your body can find balance. The result? Less stress and more peace.

4. You Reconnect with the Present Moment

When you’re constantly in a rush, it’s easy to go through the motions without really living your life. Slow living helps you reconnect with the present moment. Instead of worrying about the future or replaying the past, you start to notice the beauty in the here and now.

Fall is full of sensory experiences that can help you stay grounded in the present. The smell of freshly fallen leaves, the sound of rain tapping against the window, the warmth of a hot drink in your hands—these little moments can be incredibly grounding if you take the time to appreciate them.

When you’re more present, everything feels richer and more meaningful. You start to notice the little things that bring joy, like the way the sunlight filters through the trees or the comforting warmth of a cozy blanket. By slowing down, you create space for gratitude and mindfulness.

5. It Encourages You to Simplify and Declutter

Fall is a great time to take stock of what’s working in your life—and what’s not. As the season of change, fall naturally invites reflection. Take a look at your commitments, your environment, and your mindset. Are there things you can let go of to make space for more of what matters?

Simplifying doesn’t have to mean a massive life overhaul. It can be as simple as decluttering your home, saying no to things that drain your energy, or being more intentional with how you spend your time. The goal is to create more ease and less overwhelm.

Start small: clear out your closet, organize your space, or set some healthy boundaries around your time. By simplifying, you free up mental and physical space for the things that bring you joy and fulfillment.

6. You Create Deeper Connections

Slow living isn’t just about your relationship with yourself—it’s also about how you connect with others. In the hustle and bustle of everyday life, it’s easy to let meaningful connections slip through the cracks. When you slow down, you have more time and energy to nurture your relationships.

Fall is the perfect time to invite friends or family over for a slow, cozy evening. Cook a meal together, sit around the table, and actually talk without distractions. By embracing slow living, you create space for deeper, more intentional conversations and connections.

In a world that’s constantly pushing us to go faster, slow living is a powerful way to reclaim your time, energy, and well-being. And fall, with its cozy vibes and natural sense of slowing down, is the ideal time to give it a try. Whether it’s taking more mindful walks, simplifying your space, or just spending more time being present, slow living can help you feel more grounded, connected, and at peace.

So this fall, why not hit pause and embrace the beauty of slowing down? Your mind, body, and soul will thank you.
