Spring is around the corner, and it’s my favorite season. It’s not too hot, but also not too cold anymore. Everything starts to grow, there are cute baby animals everywhere, and we get to spend more time outside. As you can tell, I’m pretty excited for this new season. Over the last couple of months, I’ve spent a lot of time indoors because of the cold, and maybe I was a little affected by seasonal depression as well. But I’m definitely going to make the most of spring.

Things I want to do this Spring

Flea markets: One good thing about higher temperatures is that flea market season begins again. I love looking for special things at thrift stores, but now I can hunt for treasures outdoors at flea markets. Unfortunately, there are no fitting rooms at flea markets, so I’ll probably only look for CDs and books.

Walk: I wanted to spend more time outside during the winter, but the cold, snow, and seasonal depression kept me indoors. Now, I’m so ready to go for more walks on the weekends. Even just a simple walk to the stores sounds like the perfect plan.

Read lots of books: I was in a big reading slump around January and February because I wasn’t in a great mood. But now I’m back! Every night before bed I read, and on the weekends I read even more. It’s so relaxing, and reading really helps improve my mood. If the weather allows, I’d also love to read outside.

Be more creative: Apparently, according to Human Design, I am a Manifesting Generator, which basically means I have a lot of interests — and that is so true. I want to try building a LEGO set (Lilo & Stitch), I’d love to make something for my shelves, and I’d love to learn to play a song on my ukulele. I’ll never get bored!

Redecorate for spring: I want to (maybe) find something to store my growing CD collection, but I also want to add a little bit of spring decoration to my place. Right now, I’m obsessed with the color purple.

Shopping for colorful spring items: Of course, I’m going to check thrift stores first, because sometimes you find the best things. I’m an autumn type, which means that with my brown hair and green eyes, warm colors look best on me. But at the same time, I really want to wear more colorful pieces. So I’m going to look for colorful items that still suit me. I’m so excited to add some color to my closet — most of the time, I wear very dark colors or black.

Trying new food things: I think I’m going to dedicate at least one weekend to trying new foods and recipes. I always eat the same things, but maybe I’ll discover something delicious — a new favorite recipe or just something fun to try.

My birthday: My birthday is at the end of May, but I’m already excited! I don’t have to work, and it’s a long weekend, which means I can celebrate my birthday for three days straight. I’m not sure what my exact plans will be, but it will probably be something like this: eating chocolate cake and apple pie, reading a lot of books, opening my gifts, and just doing whatever I want.

Less doomscrolling: Do you know how hard it can be to stop doomscrolling? All of the social media apps are designed to keep you hooked, so it’s very addictive. But I want to stop doomscrolling and spend more time in the real world, living my life.

Decluttering: Spring is the perfect season to start fresh. Spring cleaning is something most people do, and I’m going to do it too. First, I’ll get rid of things I don’t need or use anymore. Then, I’ll do a deep clean so that everything is sparkling and fresh again.

Work on mental health: This winter was hard on my mental health. I was feeling extremely down, but of course I don’t want this seasonal depression to turn into something more serious, so I’m committed to doing the work to take care of myself.

Look for mini libraries: I’m not sure if this exists everywhere, but here in the Netherlands, you can put a mini library in your front yard. Other people can leave their books there, and you can take books too. I would love to visit a few of these mini libraries — maybe I should plan a bike trip to see several of them.

Celebrate holidays: I don’t know why, but somehow most of the holidays fall in spring. We have Easter coming up very soon, but there’s also King’s Day, Ascension, and Whit Sunday/Monday (which is on my birthday as well). I’m most excited for Easter because of the chocolate eggs — I love chocolate! — and I’m also excited for King’s Day. I don’t really go to the parties; I just enjoy visiting the flea markets.

Cozy Movie Nights: I haven’t done this in a while, and I really should bring my movie nights back. Sometimes people join me, and other times it’s just me — and that’s totally okay. I always make snacks and drinks, settle into my cozy spot, and enjoy the movie. This season is perfect for a romcom — love is in the air!

Do more Spa days at home: I’m imagining a cozy Sunday morning where you take a shower, put on a face mask, and maybe a foot mask so your feet are ready for flip-flop season. Painting your (toe)nails and doing all those little self-care things makes it so relaxing and fun.

Coloring books: Coloring books are super trendy right now, and I’ve been doing them for over ten years. Lately, I’m obsessed with the cute, themed coloring pages. Which is perfect, because I can probably find a spring-themed coloring book. It’s very relaxing, and that’s exactly what free time should be.

Create mocktails: I don’t drink alcohol, so I’m sticking to mocktails. Honestly, I’ve never tried making them before, but wouldn’t it be fun to make mocktails for my movie nights or a cozy reading day?

Try something new: I already want to try new recipes and foods — maybe some Korean or Mexican dishes — but I also think it would be good to step out of my comfort zone and try something completely new. I’m not exactly sure what my plan will be yet.

Maybe try a new game on my Switch 2: Right now, I’m mostly playing Animal Crossing: New Horizons, and I’m obsessed — I love that game! But I also want to try something different. I’ve been thinking about Tiny Bookshop or maybe Pokopia, which came out this month. I’ll probably wait for a discount or sale before picking it up.

Take better care of myself: I have days or even weeks when I go into self-destruction mode. I doomscroll, then I can’t sleep, and I end up super tired and hungry — which leads to eating a lot of junk food. I definitely want to start taking better care of myself.

I love all seasons—well, maybe not winter (too dark and too cold!)—but there’s something special about spring. I love the vibe it brings. Everything starts to bloom again, and it feels like a fresh start. I always feel more energetic, more inspired, and ready to do things, go outside, and just have fun. Maybe you feel the same way, but you’re not quite sure what to do. That’s where this list comes in—here are some fun things to do in spring to spark your inspiration!

Fun Things To Do In Spring

Read your favorite book: When the sun is out, head outside with a cozy blanket and find a peaceful spot to read.

Marie Kondo your home: Time to declutter! If something doesn’t bring you joy, thank it and let it go. A clean space = a fresh mind.

Watch a romcom: Rainy day? Stay in, make a warm drink, and enjoy a cute romantic comedy. Love is in the air, after all.

Visit a park, botanical garden, or tulip fields: Nature is blooming, and it’s the perfect photo-op. Don’t forget your phone or camera!

Make your own ice cream: Use fresh fruit and get creative with flavors—homemade always tastes better.

Get creative: Scrapbooking, calligraphy, painting, vision boarding—whatever sparks joy.

Start running again: No need to run a marathon. A light 5K is an amazing goal to work toward.

Start a side hustle: Create an Etsy shop, write an e-book, start a YouTube or TikTok channel. Spring is a great time to start fresh.

Visit a petting zoo: Springtime means baby animals! Lambs, goats, chicks—so cute!

Refresh your wardrobe: Treat yourself to that pretty dress, skirt, or pair of shorts you’ve been eyeing.

Take a city trip: Spring (and autumn) are the best times to travel—pleasant weather and fewer crowds.

Walk through a national park: Reconnect with nature. They say it’s healing for a reason.

Plan your summer break: It doesn’t have to be expensive. Think movie nights, themed parties, beach days, or weekend getaways.

Go to the beach: Watch the sunrise or sunset—or both. It’s magical.

Thrift for colorful home decor: Add some spring colors to your space. It’s fun and sustainable.

Paint your walls: A fresh coat of paint can completely transform a room. Try a happy, calming color.

Make a smoothie bowl: Light, refreshing, and healthy. Add fresh fruit, granola, and coconut flakes!

Start a vegetable garden: Even a small one. You’ll love harvesting your own food in the summer.

Take nature photos: Everything is blooming—capture the beauty around you.

Bake something delicious: Spring desserts? Yes, please. Lemon bars, cupcakes, or fruit pies!

Do a digital clean-up: Organize your inbox, delete duplicate photos, and tidy up your desktop.

Have a picnic: Wear a cute outfit, pack your favorite snacks, invite your friends, and head to the park.

Hang out with friends: Simple quality time. Ice cream dates, long walks, or just chatting for hours.

Buy new plants: A trip to the garden center is always a good idea. Plants = instant mood boost.

Declutter your closet: Donate what you don’t wear anymore and make room for new spring pieces.

Host a BBQ party: Invite your favorite people and have everyone bring a dish. So much fun!

Go to an open-air cinema: Watch a movie under the stars on a warm evening—pure vibes.

Make a spring playlist: Curate songs that make you feel happy and alive. Music sets the mood.

Try new recipes: You might just discover your new favorite dish!

Go thrift shopping: One of my favorite hobbies. From cool vintage finds to the occasional weird (but fun!) item—you never know what you’ll discover.

Ride your bike: Especially here in the Netherlands, biking is part of life—but spring is the best time to enjoy it.

Visit a theme park: Not too hot, not too cold—just the right weather for rollercoasters and cotton candy.

Take photography lessons: In person or online. Capture spring in a whole new way.

Read a self-help book: Spring = growth. Learn something new and apply it to your life.

Get a cute coloring book: It’s relaxing and a great way to unwind.

Make your own spring/summer bucket list: Write down all the things you want to do and start checking them off!

Hey there, fellow spring enthusiasts! Can you feel it? The days are getting longer, the air is getting warmer, and the world around us is bursting with life. That’s right, folks, springtime is here, and there are countless reasons to love spring. It is probably my favorite season and today I will tell you why.

Reasons to Love Spring

The weather is changing
First things first, let’s talk about the weather. After months of chilly winds and gray skies, spring sweeps in like a breath of fresh air. The sun starts to shine a little brighter, and suddenly, it’s warm enough to leave the house without bundling up like an Eskimo. There’s something so invigorating about shedding those layers and stepping outside to bask in the warmth of the sun. It makes me excited for some reason as well.

Nature is extra beautiful
But it’s not just the weather that makes spring so special – it’s also the way nature comes alive after its winter slumber. Everywhere you look, flowers are blooming, trees are budding, and birds are chirping. It’s like the whole world is waking up from a long nap, stretching its limbs, and greeting the day with a newfound energy. And not just nature waking up after a few darker and colder months. It also feels like I am waking up after a few months. I love sitting outside in the evening when it is all quiet and the birds are still singing while the sun sets.

Spending more time outside
I am not the biggest fan of cold weather, so during the colder and darker months, I spend a lot of time inside. But as soon the temperature rises and the sun comes out, you will find me outside again. I love sitting outside reading a book, and I love going for a long walk on a beautiful sunny day. I love going to the park. And it is the best season to explore new cities because it is not too warm and not too cold. I like eating outside and I like going to festivals. Spring is definitely my season.

Longer Days
During the winter it gets dark very early, and the sun sets around 4 PM already. But during spring the days are getting longer again and I love it. The sun sets late in the evening, which allows me to read a book outside in the evening. It also gets light early, which means I see the sun immediately after waking up which feels amazing. I like those longer spring days. It feels like I have more hours in a day.

Fewer layers
As I mentioned I am not the biggest fan of the cold and during the winter I wear multiple layers to keep myself warm. I care less about how I look and more about keeping myself warm. But that all changes during spring. I love wearing dresses, cute tops and shorts. I don’t like to wear a lot of layers. I feel more confident in dresses and when I look cute. So that is another reason why I love spring so much. I finally feel like myself again.

Everything feels brand-new
When spring begins a lot of people are working on their gardens and homes. It is like spring is the start of something new. Everyone is cleaning their homes and getting rid of things they don’t need anymore. I love this kind of feeling. It is a feeling of hope and excitement. I also feel like a brand-new person as well. Suddenly I am full of energy again (probably I am getting vitamin D again) and I get excited. I also use this time of the year to start new habits and to clean everything. That means getting rid of clothes I haven’t worn all year and donating them.

Outdoor activities
Around Easter, it is the start of the new festival season. And from that moment, we spend a lot more time outside. Suddenly there are tons of activities outside. Everyone is organizing events everywhere. I never get bored, because there is so much to do. There are flea markets outside everywhere, farmers’ markets, all kinds of festivals, book markets, and food festivals. There is so much to do during the warmer months and I just love it. It feels great to spend time outside again after sitting inside for months.

Fresh Produce
And by fresh I mean, really fresh. I know someone who grows their food from fruit (strawberries, raspberries, etc) to veggies (lettuce, tomatoes, etc) and I also get a little bit. And it tastes so good. There is also a period during spring when fresh asparagus is available. We also call it the White Gold, because it is so popular to eat between April – June. Everything tastes so fresh because it is all local food. The best seasons to make fresh salads and eat lots of berries.

So there you have it. These are my 8 reasons to love Spring. Do you like Spring? Or do you prefer a different season?

Photo by chi liu on Unsplash

The post Reasons to love Spring first appeared on Bettie Toon.

The post Reasons to love Spring first appeared on Bettie Toon.
