The Thursday Murder Club

Set in the luxurious retirement community of Cooper’s Chase, the story follows four spirited retirees — Elizabeth (Helen Mirren), Joyce (Celia Imrie), Ron (Pierce Brosnan), and Ibrahim (Ben Kingsley) — who meet every Thursday to discuss cold cases and try to solve them. But when a real murder occurs, they find themselves investigating, and the killer could be anyone.

Review

This movie is based on the book of the same name by Richard Osman. I really wanted to read the book, but somehow it never happened. My TBR (to-be-read) list is so long, and I’m still not sure if I’ll ever find the time to actually pick it up. So, I decided to watch the movie instead.

Before I begin, I just have to say, these elderly characters were awesome. They were all so much fun. Seriously, I want to be like that when I’m older. And can we talk about the retirement home? It was basically a castle! The setting was absolutely gorgeous and the perfect backdrop for this movie.

And honestly, I can totally see this happening in real life someday. There are so many people now who are obsessed with true crime podcasts and shows. I can imagine those people getting together once a week to solve cold cases. Honestly, I’d love to be part of a group like that. You’ve got to keep life exciting when you’re retired, right?

I really enjoyed watching this movie. It was so much fun. It’s a mystery, but it also had some funny moments, especially in the beginning. I love shows and movies like this because you can play detective yourself and try to guess who the murderer is. And this time, I was right! Maybe it was a little obvious, but I still enjoyed every minute.

The actors were fantastic. It made me realize I rarely watch shows or movies centered around older characters and that needs to change. I thought The Thursday Murder Club was a stand-alone book, but I was wrong. There are five books in the series! I truly hope they turn the others into movies as well, because I will definitely be watching.

Honestly, if you’re looking for a fun murder mystery movie, this is it. It’s a bit long (about two hours), but the time flew by. This is the perfect movie to curl up with on a cozy, rainy day.
