Twisted Hate

Jules and Josh have been enemies for years. Ever since Jules overheard him telling his sister, Ava—who also happens to be her best friend—to stay away from her, she decided to hate him. But no matter how much they clash, neither of them can ignore the undeniable chemistry between them.

When they strike up a friends-with-benefits arrangement, Jules starts to see a different side of Josh—the side she never thought existed. As their connection deepens, she realizes there’s more to him than she ever gave him credit for. But Jules has secrets of her own. The question is, will she be brave enough to let Josh in and reveal the mistakes of her past?

Review

This is the third book in Ana Huang’s Twisted series, and I’m absolutely hooked. Not because they’re the best books I’ve ever read, but because they’re just so addictive. I can’t stop turning the pages, needing to know what happens next. Now, I’m already debating when to read the final book in the series.

Honestly, this might be my favorite book so far, and I think that’s because of the side plot. Jules has a secret past she’s never shared with anyone, and she carries that burden alone. She doesn’t want to bother others with her problems, which is super relatable—I do that too. The tension in this book was incredible. The moments where Jules was forced to confront her past were some of the best parts, and I just couldn’t put the book down.

Josh and Jules were both likable in their own ways. They’re career-focused, neither of them looking for a serious relationship, but their chemistry is undeniable. Their banter was fun, and Jules showed a lot of personal growth despite her complicated past. And then there’s Josh… I appreciate that he cared so much about Jules, but if he were a real person, he’d be a walking red flag. Don’t get me wrong—Alex Volkov from Twisted Love is on another level (he’d literally kill for Ava), but Josh wasn’t far behind. Some of the things he said to Jules were just cruel, and I hated him for it. But he did have his good moments. I sort of liked his character in the book, but I’d never be into someone like him in real life. That being said, the first date he planned? Super cute. And I loved seeing his bromance with Alex.

There wasn’t much I didn’t like, aside from the obvious—I absolutely hated Max for reasons you’ll understand when you read it. And there was a lot of spicy, wild sex. I’m not the biggest fan of that, but I kept reading because of the side plot. If spice isn’t your thing, this might not be the book for you. The Twisted series leans heavily into that, so unless you’re into it or can just skim past it like I do, you might want to look for something else.

Overall, this was my favorite book in the series so far. But I’d definitely recommend reading Twisted Love and Twisted Games first to get the full experience. (Twisted Games was one of my least favorites, but reading it first does make this book make more sense.)

4o

Twisted Games

Bridget von Ascheberg, a princess from Eldorra, has always been relieved that her brother is first in line for the throne. Becoming queen has never appealed to her, and she’s content staying out of the spotlight. But when her longtime bodyguard, Booth, steps down, Rhys Larsen takes his place. Rhys lives by two strict rules: protect his clients and never get emotionally involved. He’s never broken those rules—until now.

Bridget is stubborn, independent, and undeniably alluring, testing Rhys’s resolve like never before. He wants her, but he knows he shouldn’t.

Everything changes when Bridget’s life is turned upside down. Her brother chooses love over duty and abdicates the throne, leaving Bridget as the crown princess and future queen. Before stepping into this overwhelming new role, she decides to complete a bucket list of adventures, one of which is sleeping with Rhys. She assumes their connection will end when she moves back to Eldorra, but their chemistry proves impossible to resist. As they’re drawn closer together, they must confront the realities of their feelings—and the challenges of their vastly different worlds.

Review

This is the second book in the Twisted series, and earlier this year, I read the first book (Twisted Love). My feelings about that book were mixed, and honestly, I have the same mixed opinions about this one. But let’s start with the positives.

These books are very easy to read—the writing style flows well, the pacing isn’t too slow, and there’s always something happening. I liked Bridget as a character and found her relatable. The idea of becoming a queen sounded dreadful to her, and I totally understood why. It felt like she was giving up her freedom, with everyone constantly watching and judging her every move. I genuinely felt sorry for her when she learned she was next in line for the throne, especially since it was the last thing she wanted.

As for Rhys, my feelings are more conflicted. I initially liked his protectiveness—it’s part of his job, after all—but it was clear from the beginning that his protectiveness stemmed from more than just professionalism. While that dynamic intrigued me at first, I found his possessiveness and jealousy a bit overbearing as the story progressed. And the way he kept calling her Princess all the time—was everyone around them seriously that oblivious? It was so obvious they were involved.

My biggest issue with the book is tied to Bridget’s character. From the start, it’s made clear that becoming a queen is her worst nightmare, not her dream. To make matters worse, she’s expected to marry someone rich, noble, or titled—definitely not a commoner. She fights to change that rule because of her love for Rhys, which makes sense. But (and stop reading here if you don’t want spoilers) after she repeals the law, I couldn’t help but wonder: why didn’t her brother step back into the role of king? He abdicated to marry a commoner, but with the law changed, wouldn’t it have been possible for him to reclaim the throne? Bridget still didn’t want to be queen, so his decision felt odd in hindsight.

Another issue I had, which also bothered me in the first book, was how the second half of the story shifted focus. While the first part was mostly enjoyable, the second half was dominated by smut. I don’t mind some smut in romance novels, but this felt like overkill. It got to the point where it felt less like a love story and more like reading about two overly hormonal teenagers—even though Bridget is 24 and Rhys is 34. And the crawling scene? That was a hard pass for me. It was just cringe.

Overall, I’d describe these books as oddly addicting. Despite my frustrations, I still want to continue with the series. If you enjoy steamy romances, insta-love, and princess/bodyguard dynamics, this might be the book for you. Just be prepared for a lot of smut and some eyebrow-raising moments!

The post Twisted Games – Ana Huang | Book Review first appeared on Bettie Toon.

The post Twisted Games – Ana Huang | Book Review first appeared on Bettie Toon.

Twisted Love is about Ava and Alex. Ava was pushed into a lake when she was five and she couldn´t swim so almost drowned. Now she is having nightmares-terrors every night.
Alex was just a kid when he witnessed two men killing his parents and his little sister. Now he wants to get his revenge. Ava and Alex have known each other for a few years now because Ava’s brother have been best friends with Alex for several years now. Now Ava’s brother is gone and Alex is keeping an eye on Ava. At one point, they admit they are both very attracted to each other and they now start something.

Review

This book was recommended by many people online and it was time to find out if the hype is really worth it or if I wouldn’t like it. I had no idea what this book or series was about before I started reading it. I prefer it that way. Makes it more fun to read.

I always start with the positive feedback. This book was so good. I really enjoyed it and it was extremely hard to put it down, even when I really had to. At the same time, it was very dark, but I kind of enjoyed it. The story was great, the writing style was amazing and it never got really boring. It was one of those books I wanted to finish before putting it down. Unfortunately, I did not have the time for that and I had to put it down halfway through. But I think I finished it in just two nights. Most of the time when I finish a book in one or two days, it is a really good book.

I liked Ava’s character. She was a happy, and very positive person. And she is the opposite of Alex, who is very negative and not in the mood for happy things. Very interesting considering they both went through a lot as kids. They both have trauma. This shows everyone is dealing with it in their own way.

But I am so happy that this is just a book and not real because I really saw red flags everywhere when it came to Alex’s character. Not just because he is negative, although I prefer to stay away from very negative people, it was because he was messed up. He wanted to get revenge on the person who killed his family. Which is understandable, but he was willing to kill. His thoughts were dark. The things he did, said, or thought were not okay. I was wondering what Ava saw in Alex. He was very controlling and he knew people everywhere, even in the government. It was like he was in the mafia or something. I’m so glad Alex is just a fictional character.

But even though Alex was creepy as shit, I still think in a weird (or twisted) way that this book was great. I enjoyed every single bit of it. It was a complete mindfuck. It was nothing like the most

The post Twisted Love – Ana Huang | Book Review first appeared on Bettie Toon.

The post Twisted Love – Ana Huang | Book Review first appeared on Bettie Toon.
