A long time ago, I was doing an internship, and there was someone there who introduced me to drinking hot water. Every day, we had a coffee/tea break together, and while I was drinking tea, another woman would always drink hot water. One day, I asked her why, and she explained that drinking hot water had a lot of benefits. Of course, I had to try it! Honestly, I ended up liking it more than cold water, and now I actually prefer drinking hot water over cold, even in the summer. And today I am sharing those benefits of drinking hot water with you.

The Benefits of Drinking Hot Water

Supports Digestion: Warm water can help stimulate digestion by encouraging blood flow to the digestive organs. It may help your body break down food more efficiently and reduce feelings of bloating or heaviness.

Helps Relieve Constipation: Drinking hot water can help soften stools and encourage regular bowel movements, especially when consumed in the morning.

Promotes Relaxation: Warm water has a calming effect on the nervous system. It can help your body relax and may reduce tension or stress, especially when enjoyed slowly.

May Improve Circulation: Warm water helps dilate blood vessels, which can support better circulation and reduce stiffness in the body.

Helps With Detox Processes: Water supports the body’s natural detox systems. Drinking warm water may help stimulate sweating and urination, assisting the body in eliminating waste.

Soothes the Throat: Hot or warm water can feel soothing for a dry or irritated throat, especially during colder months or when you’re feeling under the weather.

May Reduce Bloating: Warm water can help relax the digestive tract, making it easier for gas to move through the system and reducing bloating.

Supports Morning Hydration: Starting your day with warm water gently rehydrates your body after sleep without overwhelming your system.

Can Help With Menstrual Discomfort: Warm water may help relax muscles and reduce cramps by improving blood flow.

Eases Nasal Congestion: Steam from hot water can help loosen mucus and soothe a stuffy nose.

May Support Weight Management: Warm water can slightly boost metabolism and may help you feel full before meals.

Encourages Mindful Drinking: Sipping warm water slowly invites mindfulness — you notice the taste, temperature, and the act of drinking itself.

Supports Hydration During Cold Weather: Cold water can feel shocking in winter, while warm water keeps you hydrated comfortably.

Calms an Upset Stomach: Warm water can relax the muscles of the digestive tract, helping reduce nausea or mild stomach discomfort.

Boosts Energy Gently: Unlike caffeine, warm water can refresh your system subtly by aiding circulation and hydration.

Improves Skin Health: Hydration from warm water supports circulation and can help maintain skin elasticity and a healthy glow.

Reduces Stress Hormones: The warmth signals your body to relax, which may help lower cortisol levels and promote calm.

Supports Oral Health: Warm water can help wash away bacteria gently, especially when paired with morning routines like brushing.

We hear about it all the time: “Drink more water!” But why is it such a big deal, and how can you keep up with it without turning into a camel? Let’s dive in!

Why Hydration Matters

First off, let’s talk about why our bodies crave that sweet, sweet H2O.

Keeps Your Body Running Smoothly: Water is like oil for your car. It keeps everything running smoothly, from your joints to your digestion. Without enough water, your body struggles to perform even basic functions.

Energy Levels and Brain Function: Feeling sluggish and having trouble focusing? You might just be dehydrated. Even mild dehydration can affect your mood, memory, and brain performance.

Detox and Health: Water helps flush out toxins from your body. Think of it as a natural detox drink that’s free and always available.

Skin Health: Want that glowing, dewy skin? Water is your best friend. Proper hydration can help keep your skin clear and plump.

Weight Management: Sometimes, our bodies confuse thirst with hunger. Staying hydrated can help control unnecessary snacking. The next time you think you want to snack, try to drink some water first.

Tips and Tricks to Stay Hydrated

Now, we all know we should drink more water, but life gets busy, and it’s easy to forget. Here are some fun and easy tips to make hydration a no-brainer:

Carry a Water Bottle Everywhere: It sounds basic, but having a water bottle within arm’s reach can remind you to drink up. Invest in a bottle you love—maybe one with a built-in straw or a cool design. Bring it with you when you go to work, exercise, or shopping.

Set Reminders: Use your phone to set hourly reminders to take a sip. There are even apps dedicated to tracking your water intake!

Infuse Your Water: Bored with plain water? Jazz it up with slices of fruit, cucumbers, or mint. This not only makes it taste better but also looks super fancy. But don’t drink mint-flavored water all day, because this can cause some negative symptoms.

Eat Your Water: Yep, you read that right. Foods like cucumbers, watermelon, and oranges have high water content and contribute to your hydration. It is a win-win situation because you hydrated yourself but you also get those vitamins and minerals. Super healthy!

Start Your Day with Water: Make it a habit to drink a glass of water first thing in the morning. It’s a great way to kick-start your day and your metabolism. the last time you drank water was many hours ago, so your body really needs it.

Keep Track: Use a water tracking app or a simple journal to note how much water you’re drinking each day. Sometimes seeing it written down can motivate you to drink more.

Be honest, how much water do you drink on average? A lot of people struggle with their water intake, even when they know it is very important. Drinking more water has a lot of great benefits for your body and mind. Today I am sharing why you should drink more water and how to do it. Because let’s be honest and admit that drinking enough water every single is something we easily forget. That is why I will give you some helpful tips. But before you continue reading this post, maybe this is a great moment to drink a cup of water.

What happens when you don’t drink enough

First things first, let’s talk about what happens when you neglect your water intake. Brace yourselves, because it’s not pretty:

Brain Drain: Ever feel like your brain’s running on empty? Dehydration can zap your cognitive powers faster than you can say “water break.” Say hello to headaches, dizziness, and a serious case of brain fog.

Skin SOS: Forget pricey skincare products – water is your skin’s best friend. Without enough hydration, you can kiss that dewy glow goodbye and say hello to dry, dull skin and even pesky breakouts.

Gut Woes: Your digestive system deserves some love too! Dehydration can throw a wrench in your digestive works, leading to constipation, bloating, and just an overall feeling of ugh.

Kidney Cries: Your kidneys work hard to keep your body in tip-top shape, but they need water to do their job properly. Skimping on water can lead to kidney stones and other not-so-fun kidney issues.

Reasons to drink more water

Now, let’s flip the script and talk about the awesome perks of staying hydrated:

Energy Boost: Move over, coffee – water is the real MVP when it comes to boosting your energy levels. Say goodbye to that mid-afternoon slump and hello to sustained energy throughout the day.

Mood Magic: Hydration isn’t just good for your body – it’s good for your mood too! Studies have shown that even mild dehydration can negatively impact your mood and cognitive function, so drink up for a sunny disposition.

Performance Power: Whether you’re hitting the gym or crushing it at work, staying hydrated is key to performing at your best. Proper hydration helps keep your muscles and joints happy, so you can tackle whatever life throws your way.

Detox Deluxe: Your body is a temple, and water is the ultimate cleanser. Staying hydrated helps flush out toxins and waste products, leaving you feeling refreshed and revitalized.

How much should drink and how to do it?

So, how much water should you be drinking, anyway? While the old “eight glasses a day” rule isn’t set in stone, a good rule of thumb is to aim for about half your body weight in ounces each day. So if you weigh 150 pounds (around 70 kg), that’s about 75 ounces (2.2 liters) of water daily.

Now, I know what you’re thinking – how on earth am I supposed to drink that much water? Fear not, my friends, for I come bearing hydration hacks:

Set reminders: Whether it’s a phone alarm or a friendly sticky note, a little reminder can go a long way in helping you hit your hydration goals.

Invest in a reusable bottle: Having a trusty water bottle by your side makes it easy to sip throughout the day. Plus, it’s eco-friendly!

Flavor it up: If plain old water isn’t your jam, jazz it up with some fresh fruit or herbs for a tasty twist.

Sip before you snack: Next time you feel a snack attack coming on, reach for your water bottle instead. Sometimes, thirst masquerades as hunger, so hydrating first can help curb those cravings.

So there you have it, folks – the lowdown on why water is the real MVP of the hydration game. So raise your glasses (of water, of course) and toast to staying hydrated, feeling fabulous, and living your best, most hydrated life. Cheers!

Photo by Bindle Bottle on Unsplash

The post Why You Should Drink More Water and How To Do It. first appeared on Bettie Toon.

<p>The post Why You Should Drink More Water and How To Do It. first appeared on Bettie Toon.</p>
