Caught Up

Kai is a famous baseball player and he is really good. A year ago his life changed completely. He found out that he was the father of a six-month-old (Max) and the mother of Max did not want to take care of him anymore. Kai was shocked but he wanted to be there for Max and take care of him. So now he is a single dad and a baseball player, which makes it very hard for Kai to find some balance in his life. He always hires new nannies, but they are never good enough so he fires them within weeks. His coach Monty came up with a solution. His daughter (Miller) could be a nanny for Max this summer because she is taking a break from work.
Miller is a successful chef but is burned out and is not sure if she still likes to be a chef. She is now taking a break and her father asks her to be Max’s nanny for the rest of the summer. Miller and Kai are attracted to each other from the start. But Kai wants to have a serious and long-term relationship, while Miller never stays in one place for too long.

Review

This is the third book in the Windy City Series. I already have read ‘Mile High‘ and ‘The Right Move‘, but honestly I think this book (caught up) might be my favorite so far.

The first book is about an Ice hockey player, the second book is about a Basketball player and this book is about a baseball player. First of all, I have never watched any of these sports. So sometimes it is hard to follow because, for example, I have no idea what ‘innings’ is in Baseball. I think they are all pretty American sports, which makes sense because the author is Americain. But I am not American and I don’t know anything about those American sports.

The second thing is that I wonder what the fourth book will be about. I am sort of afraid to check it out. I know the fourth book is coming soon. And I wonder who the main character will be. Because honestly, I have been waiting for Rio’s story since the first book. But I also think the next book will be about Kai’s brother Isaiah. The ending already revealed that I think.

Anyway back to this book. I really liked this story. It is a single dad who does everything for his child. He is feeling guilty he missed the first six months. He doesn’t want to miss a single bit of his life. He doesn’t want to miss his first steps, his first words. I find it very attractive when men are good with kids. Which is kind of ironic, because I am not sure if I am the best with kids.
Another reason why I liked this book is there were fewer spicy parts in this book, which is a good thing. Especially in the first book, it was a little bit too much in my opinion. Sometimes less is really more.

Liz Tomforde’s writing style is very easy to read. It is fast-paced and sometimes it gets very hard to put it down. This book also made me emotional. There was this moment at the end of the book where Miller was going back to her own life at the end of the summer and it made me cry. That moment was so beautiful, even though I saw it coming. I am almost tearing up again now I think about it.

If you want to read this book, it is better to read the other books first. All of the stories are sort of intertwined and it makes more sense. Overall, I really enjoyed reading this book. I can highly recommend it. And now I am just going to wait and pray for a book about Rio. He also deserves a love story. Maybe book number 5 will be about him.

The post Caught Up – Liz Tomforde | Book Review first appeared on A happy life.

The post Caught Up – Liz Tomforde | Book Review first appeared on A happy life.

The Right Move

Ryan is a successful basketball player and he only wants to focus on basketball. He does not want any distractions. That means that his apartment is pretty much empty, organized, and clean. He also does not date. Indy is the opposite. She is messy, colorful, and loud. And now she is staying with Ryan because she has no other place to live. They both have had bad experiences with love. Ryan was cheated on in college and he even thought he was going to be a father. Indy was in a relationship with Alex, but he also cheated on her. But the more time they spend together, the more they start to like each other

Review

This is the second book in the Windy City series. The first book (Mile High) was about Ryan’s sister Stevie and ice hockey player Zanders. I was really excited to read this book because I really liked Ryan’s character in the first book. He was so nice to his sister. They have a really special bond and not just because they are twins.

The characters are likable. The characters were already introduced in the first book, so I already had an image of them. I knew Indy’s story a little bit and how Alex cheated on her. But in the second book,g you will find more about Indy and her wish to start a family, even though that is going to be hard. She has no idea if she even can get pregnant. Ryan does not want any distractions, so there is no place for a relationship. He just wants to focus on basketball. But he has his own struggles.

At first, Ryan isn’t thrilled that Indy is going to stay at his apartment for a while. But he does everything Stevie wants, so she lets Indy stay. When they spend more time together, they start liking each other a bit more. I think they bring the best out of each other. They are cute together. Ryan is a great male main character. All those little things he did for Indy. He even learned how to sign and that part made me cry. He is truly a good man. Exactly what I expected since he was also very nice to his sister in the first book.

The story itself is also good. I enjoyed reading it. It was one of those book I couldn’t stop reading. It was hard to put the book down. I have only one problem with this book. The smut was a little bit too much. There were too many spicy scenes in this book for me. I don’t mind a little smut, but I think it was a little bit too much.
The ending (epilogue) made me happy. I just love happy endings a lot and this one made me smile a lot. I was just so happy for the main characters.

I already know the third book is going to be about Kai. They introduced him in this book maybe two or three times. But he wasn’t there a lot, to be honest. He just lives in the same building as Ryan Shay and he has a kid. He is constantly firing his nannies because he is a single dad. Yes, I want to read this book. But I was sort of expecting a book about Rio. For some reason, I am very excited to read about him. There are only three books in the series as I am writing this review, but I hope Liz will write a beautiful love story for Rio as well.

Overall, I enjoyed it a lot. But again, there were just too many spicy scenes and it was a little bit too much in my opinion. The good news is that you can easily skim those parts and you won’t miss a single thing. I can still recommend this book series by Liz Tomforde.

Buy this book on Amazon

Mile High

Stevie is a flight attendant and this year she is going to be a flight attendant for the ice hockey team The Raptors. One of the hockey players is Evan Zanders and he is also the most attractive one. Good thing he is also the most annoying one because she does not date sports players after a previous relationship experience with another athlete. But it is so hard to resist him.
Evan Zanders is one of the Raptor players and according to the media, he is a bad boy who gets into fights and hooks up with girls every single night. But that couldn’t be further away from the truth. And now he has a crush on his flight attendant. He does literally anything to get her attention and to get her in his bed.

Review

Normally the books I read have around 400 or maybe 500 ebook pages. This one was 700 pages according to my Kobo reader. So this is the first time, I read a big book. Although, now I think about it. ‘Thing We Never Got Over’ by Lucy Score was pretty big as well. And I am always afraid to read big books because they will get boring eventually. Especially when it comes to romance, there will be a lot of boring details and parts that I don’t care about.

But honestly, it wasn’t that bad. Sure, it wasn’t a quick read for me compared to the other books I’ve read in the past. I took me a couple of evenings to finish it since I only read for 1-2 hours every single night before going to sleep.

I think I liked Stevie. She cares more about the shelter than her job. And I felt so bad for her about how her mother talked to her. I am surprised that she did not cut her mother off years ago. It made me so angry. Stevie´s brother is the best. Honestly, I liked his character the most in this book. I am really looking forward to reading his story. Hopefully, he won´t let me down. But it sounds like he is a good person. And I loved the brother/sister relationship between Stevie and her brother. They were best friends.

Not sure how I feel about Evan Zanders. First of all, what’s up with using last names instead of first names? I’ve seen and heard this before. And it is not just Zanders, I think they barely used first names. But Evan Zanders has a bad-boy reputation. He even has a list of women on his phone and which city they live in. So I didn’t get the part he claims that is just fake and how that is not him. But there are also things that made me like him. He wears Stevie’s ring 24/7 and he starts to be more open about what is going on in his life. And the fact he adopted a dog was cool. Men with dogs/cats are attractive for some reason.

The setting was pretty cool. I wonder if Stevie’s job really exists and if each team has their own plane crew. Sounds pretty cool. The idea that you are in a different city each week is amazing. I have to say that I am not American, so I don’t know much about American sports like Ice Hockey (or Basketball/American football). So I still don’t know what it means that Evan Zanders had to sit in the penalty box each time and for how long. Maybe it is like regular hockey (which is popular here).

Overall, I still think it was a good story. Maybe a little long for me. I am not used to reading big books because I am too impatient. Maybe I should read more big books, so I will have more patience for books like these. I still enjoyed it. I am really looking forward to reading the second book in the series, which is about another American sport: basketball. Hopefully, I will also see a glimpse of Stevie and Zanders now. But I think we will, since Stevie is so close with her brother.

The post Mile High – Liz Tomforde first appeared on A happy life.

The post Mile High – Liz Tomforde first appeared on A happy life.
