In a world where we’re encouraged to constantly buy new clothes, upgrade our homes, and chase the next “must-have,” it’s easy to believe that happiness comes from owning more. But if you think back to your favorite memories, the moments that still make you smile, they probably aren’t things you bought. They’re moments you lived. I mean, I can’t remember the things I bought at the beginning of the year, but I can still remember the things I did that made me smile. Experiences stay with you in a way no object ever can, and choosing to invest in them can completely shift the way you feel about your life.

Why You Should Buy Experiences instead of Things

Things Don’t Make Us Truly Happy

We often buy things because it gives us a quick burst of excitement. A package arrives, you open it, you feel happy for a moment… and then it fades. I mean, look at the Labubu trend this year. People were going crazy over those Labubu’s and now you don’t see anyone talking about it anymore. That new item becomes just another thing in your room, something you barely notice. But experiences grow more meaningful with time. A day trip with a friend, a concert you saved for, a cozy afternoon at a café, these moments stay warm in your mind long after they’re over and gently shape your confidence and identity.

Experiences Bring You Into the Present

Experiences pull you out of autopilot mode. When you visit a new place, try something different, or plan a simple slow-day routine, you actually feel alive. You’re present. You’re not scrolling or numbing yourself with routine, you’re creating something real. And that feeling doesn’t fade the way the excitement of a new purchase does. I have several stories from my festival experiences, and every time I think back, they still make me smile. And I am talking about the things I did when I was still in my teenage years or my early twenties.

They Strengthen Your Connection to Yourself and Others

Shared experiences build deeper relationships than shopping trips ever will. Laughing together, learning something new, or exploring a city creates memories that bond you. And solo experiences, like a workshop, a solo café date, or a quiet walk, help you understand yourself on a deeper level. These moments teach you what you enjoy, what inspires you, and what feels good for your life.

You Can Still Buy Things — Just Buy Intentionally

Choosing experiences doesn’t mean you can never buy things. It simply means being mindful. Buy things that support your experiences, not replace them: a journal for capturing memories, a book to get lost in, a cozy sweater for winter walks, a skincare product that makes your morning feel soft and slow. Let your purchases add to your life, not clutter it.
And at some point you will also realize that you don’t need all that stuff.

The Memories Are Always There

At the end of the year, or even years from now, you won’t treasure the sweaters, makeup, or random impulse buys. You’ll remember the places you visited, the hobbies you tried, the people you shared moments with, and the little adventures that opened your world. Those are the things that shape you.

Choose Moments Over Objects

As you move toward 2026, consider investing more in living and less in collecting. Choose memories over clutter. Choose moments that expand your life, not items that fade into the background. The experiences you create become part of you, and that’s worth more than anything you could ever buy.

There’s something magical about city trips. Whether you’re hopping on a train for a quick weekend escape or flying to a place you’ve always dreamed of, exploring a city is an experience packed with discovery, energy, and joy. And the best part? You don’t have to travel far or break the bank to feel like you’re on a real adventure.

Here are 25+ reasons why city trips are the perfect way to escape your routine and add something fresh and exciting to your life:

Why You Should Go on a City Trip

1. Every city has its own soul

From the charming streets of Paris to the vibrant energy of Berlin or the cozy cafés of Copenhagen—no two cities are the same. Each one has its own culture, style, rhythm, and story waiting to be discovered.

2. So much to see in a short time

Cities are compact treasure boxes. Within a few kilometers, you can see iconic landmarks, local street art, architecture, hidden alleys, markets, and parks—all in just one day.

3. Ideal for short getaways

Don’t have time for a long vacation? A city trip is the ultimate micro-adventure. Even a weekend or an overnight stay can make a huge difference in your mood and mindset.

4. They’re easy to plan

Most cities are easy to access with public transport or a short flight. No complicated logistics or planning needed—just book, pack, and go.

5. Cities are full of life

There’s always something happening: live music, festivals, pop-up markets, outdoor film nights, exhibitions, food fairs. Boredom is not an option.

6. Perfect for solo travelers

If you’re going alone, cities are the best playground. You’ll blend in easily, feel safe, and there’s always something to do or someone to meet.

7. Public transport is your best friend

Forget long hours of driving. In most cities, metros, trams, and buses are fast, fun, and efficient. You can be across town in minutes.

8. Great for your creativity

New surroundings, new people, new ideas. Cities are naturally inspiring. Whether you’re a writer, artist, content creator, or just feeling in a rut—this is your fuel.

9. Unbeatable food experiences

Think street food, local bakeries, cute brunch spots, fancy dinners, trendy cafés, and hidden gems. Cities are foodie heaven.

10. Evenings are next level

As the sun goes down, cities glow. Think rooftop bars, late-night dinners, sunset views, light shows, moonlit walks, or a cozy cinema night.

11. Shopping, always

From luxury boutiques to indie concept stores, from vintage markets to local crafts—there’s something for every taste and budget.

12. Budget? No problem

Many cities offer discount cards for museums and transport, student deals, and even free walking tours or activities. It’s totally possible to explore without spending a lot.

13. So many types of activities

Relax in a park, visit an art museum, walk through a botanical garden, go to a concert, rent a bike, try a food tour… You can shape your trip around exactly what you love.

14. Incredible photo spots

Let’s be honest, cities are photogenic. Cute cafés, skyline views, colorful doors, street art, historical buildings… Instagram will love you.

15. Perfect for spontaneous adventures

No need to plan every detail. Walk around, take random streets, pop into shops or events. Cities are full of beautiful surprises.

16. Meet new people

Cities are full of travelers and locals. Whether it’s through an event, workshop, café chat, or even just asking for directions, connections happen naturally.

17. Indoor and outdoor fun

Rainy day? Museums, libraries, cafés, galleries, and shops. Sunny day? Parks, rooftops, city walks, bike rides. The city works with any weather.

18. Cultural boost

Museums, history, architecture, traditions—city trips offer little lessons in culture, even if you’re not trying to learn anything. It’s just part of the vibe.

19. You can make it as chill or busy as you like

Spend the day ticking off spots or take it slow with a book in the park and a late brunch. You’re in charge of your pace.

20. Try new things

Ever wanted to take a pottery class? Join a food tour? Attend a jazz night? Cities are full of mini adventures and chances to step out of your comfort zone.

21. Escape your usual routine

Even just a 1-day break can give your brain a reset. New views, different sounds, different rhythm. It clears your head like nothing else.

22. You learn about yourself

Traveling alone or navigating a new place always teaches you something—how you react to challenges, what brings you joy, and what you truly love.

23. City trips are accessible year-round

Spring blooms, summer terraces, autumn leaves, cozy winter lights—each season brings a different city experience.

24. They make you feel alive

Wandering unfamiliar streets, tasting something new, watching the world go by from a café window… It’s the little things that make you feel fully present.

25. They’re good for the soul

Sometimes, stepping into a new city—even just for a day—can give you exactly what you didn’t know you needed: inspiration, energy, joy, and a fresh perspective.

Most people I know are going on vacation during the summer. It is when most people take breaks from work. During the summer it is always quiet at the office. And sure, if you are still going to school, you don’t get a lot of time off during other seasons. But, hear me out: fall is hands-down the best season to travel, and I’ll tell you why. Summer vacations are fun and all, but there’s something extra special about exploring new places in the fall. Here’s why I’m obsessed with fall travel and why you should be too:

Why Fall is the Best Season to Travel

1. Fewer Crowds = More Fun
Summer is great, but let’s be real—it’s packed everywhere. Airports, beaches, tourist spots, you name it. Fall, though? It’s like the secret season where you can actually enjoy your destination without elbowing through a crowd of tourists. No more long lines for everything, no more packed beaches, and no more feeling like you’re in a never-ending game of people dodgeball.

2. Perfect Weather for Exploring
You know what’s not fun? Sweating buckets while trying to sightsee in the blazing heat. Sure, summer gives you all the sunshine, but fall weather is where it’s at. It’s cool enough to be comfortable while walking around and warm enough that you’re not shivering either. Whether you’re wandering through a city, hiking in nature, or chilling by a lake, fall weather is that sweet spot where you can do it all without melting. And in some cities, it can be still pretty warm in fall, so it doesn’t always mean it is always raining and cold.

3. Fall Foliage is Straight-Up Gorgeous
One of the biggest perks of traveling in the fall? The scenery. Everywhere you go, the trees are showing off with vibrant reds, oranges, and yellows. It doesn’t matter if you’re exploring a big city, a small town, or the countryside—fall landscapes are like nature’s artwork. And trust me, your Instagram feed will thank you for all those gorgeous, golden-leaf-filled shots. Fall vibes just hit differently.

4. Cheaper Everything
Let’s talk money. Traveling in the fall is usually cheaper than summer because it’s considered the “off-season.” That means better deals on flights, hotels, and attractions. You can score some serious discounts and stretch your budget further. Plus, I’m all about fewer crowds AND saving money at the same time—it’s a win-win. This can also mean you have enough money to stay at a hotel for longer than just a week.

5. Cozy Vibes Everywhere You Go
Fall naturally brings out the cozy in everything, and when you travel, it’s no different. Whether you’re snuggled up in a cabin, exploring a cozy café, or enjoying a hot drink after a long day of sightseeing, fall has that perfect chill vibe. Picture yourself wrapped up in a scarf, sipping hot apple cider, and watching the sunset over a beautiful fall landscape. It’s peak relaxation.

6. Fall Festivals and Events
There are so many fun things happening in the fall that you can only experience this time of year. Think of harvest festivals, Oktoberfest, Halloween events, and more. Every place has its own fall traditions, and it’s the perfect time to soak in the local culture. There’s just something extra charming about fall festivities, and they make traveling during this season even more special.

7. Fall Foods from Around the World
And finally, let’s not forget the food! Fall is prime time for seasonal dishes that you won’t find during the summer. Depending on where you go, you can try delicious local fall recipes, whether it’s a hearty stew, pumpkin treats, or warm, spiced drinks. Traveling is always about the food, and in the fall, everything feels a little more comforting and delicious.

So, if you’re looking to travel without the chaos of summer crowds, want better deals, and love soaking in gorgeous scenery with those cozy fall vibes, then pack your bags! Fall is definitely the best season to explore new places, and once you try it, you’ll never want to go back to the sweaty summer travel hustle.
