Review
Honestly, I thought the title (sex with strangers) of the book meant that she was going to have sex with lots of strangers. Well, spoiler alert, that does not happen at all. Sex with strangers is the project she is working on. But I am not going to say too much about that because I don’t want to spoil too many things.
Overall, I liked the story. I realize that most of the Female main characters In the books I read are around 30 years old. I think this might give ‘older’ women hope that life doesn’t stop at a certain age and you can always find (new) love. There were some funny moments. But I always have trouble with romance books when the main characters want to get married after two weeks. Why the rush? I get that she is older and maybe you don’t want to waste any time when you are older, but it is still a no-go for me. I always roll my eyes when this happens in books.
There were some nice plot twists. I like it when I can’t predict what is coming next. I Have to warn you though, that Sexual assault is mentioned in this book. So this book might not be for everyone, even though it is a very small portion of this book. I am a little bit disappointed about the grand gesture. Ruby had to make it up to Fergus because of what she did and she did the bare minimum and he immediately accepted it. I was hoping for a bigger gesture.
The main characters are okay. Ruby is a 44-year-old and recently divorced. The only thing we have in common is that she likes to write. Fergus is an Irish man with a beautiful accent and good-looking. Ruby’s best friend is Chanel and she is a life coach and she just wants to have fun with men. When she enters a room, every man is looking at her. She is also into the Law of Attraction like I am. They were sometimes talking about the Law of Attraction and how to use it to get a man.
The setting is nice. I love New York, so that is a plus. The writing style was okay, but I am not sure if it was me or not, because sometimes I was just confused about what I was reading. Maybe that was me because I read before I go to bed and I am always a little bit tired when I read. And there was a typo towards the end. Instead of Fergus, the author wrote Ferus.
Overall, this book was okay. I liked the story about a woman trying to find new love after her divorce. It is hopeful. But there were also things I liked less about this book. But I am giving it 3 out of 5 hearts because for me it was just average. I have read books that I liked less this year, so it didn’t deserve 1 or 2 hearts. But I have also read books that I couldn’t put it down this year.
