Inside Out 2
Riley is now older and a teenager and she is entering her puberty. She is now experiencing new, different, and complex emotions. She can now feel envy, ennui, and anxiety.
Riley has two best friends and they all love to play hockey and they are pretty good at it. When they get invited for tryouts for a high school team, her two best friends are telling her that they are going to a different high school next year. And Riley is not sure how she should react to that. A part of her is sad, because she really loves her best friends, but she is also angry because that means she has to make new friends at her new school next year. At try-out camp, she does not know whether she should be on her best friend’s team or whether she should try to make new friends and pick the other team.
Review
It’s been almost ten years since the last Inside Out movie and now Riley is older and she is facing new things and she doesn’t know how to respond to that. It is all so confusing. And the new emotions are making it even more complex and confusing.
I don’t remember a lot of the first movie. I only remember that Riley was moving houses and she did not like it there. She was mostly sad and angry. But now she likes her life and she has two great best friends. And she is now going through puberty and I think this movie might be very relatable for teenagers, but as an adult, you also might enjoy this movie. The animations are fun. I wonder if the makers will make more movies in the future. Riley is a young adult, adult, and older woman. That sounds fun. The Young Adult might be a fun movie, especially seeing Riley struggle to find a home, a job, and relationship struggles.
But I am also going to be honest and this is going to be super personal preference, I just wanted to see more of Riley. I had the same things with the first movie, I believe. At one point, most part of the movie is about the emotions inside her mind. And you see what the emotions are doing. But sometimes those things got weird, a bit cringe and a little bit boring. In both movies, they have to find their way back to the control panel in Riley’s mind, but I didn’t like that part that much. Maybe it is more fun for younger kids, but I just didn’t care about those parts. I preferred to have all of those emotions at the control panel and then fight who is in control and how Riley should react. I enjoyed those parts more. Those parts were funny.
Inside Out 2 is the most successful movie of this year so far. And I am not surprised though. I had zero reasons to go to the cinema before. I even have no idea what movies came out earlier this year. I feel like the best movies are coming out this summer. I also want to see Despicable Me 4. Same as last year basically, when Barbie and Oppenheimer were the best movies.
So yeah, there were small parts I just didn’t like in the movies, but overall this is a fun movie. Definitely a great movie to watch with (your) kids, especially now because most kids don’t have to go to school yet. But this is also a movie that you could watch as an adult.
