Space Cadet
Rex Simpson was just a little girl when she knew that she wanted to become an astronaut. She was doing great in school and had a full-ride scholarship, but after her mother died she decided to stay with her father and find a bartending job.
Now years later, after a school reunion, she realizes that she really wants to chase her dreams again. So she applied to NASA’s space program and to her surprise, she got accepted. Even though, she doesn’t have the education that the other candidates do.
Review
Let’s start by saying that my taste in movies is pretty interesting. In contrast, I do enjoy watching oscar winning movies every now and then, most of the time I just want to watch a fun movie. I am watching movies because I want to be entertained, so I am not going to watch a movie that I probably wouldn’t like.
This movie is pretty unrealistic. A young woman who only has her high school diploma and has a bartending job wouldn’t normally be accepted in a program like NASA’s. At least, I hope not. So please, don’t expect something realistic when you are going to watch this movie. It is a movie. It is fiction.
But I enjoyed watching this movie so much! I mean, it is not worth five stars, but I really had a great time watching it. I think Emma Roberts is very charming. And maybe she saved this movie. Maybe a different actress instead of Emma, would have made this whole movie cringe. I think they did a great job picking Emma for this role. These are the kind of movies that are perfect for Emma Roberts. It was also giving Poppy Moore (Wild Child movie starring Emma Roberts) vibes. It felt like, after graduating school, Poppy started bartending and just decided that she could do anything and applied to the NASA space program.
I know this movie is just a comedy and the love story is not the main story, but I hoped there would be more moments between Rex and Logan. But oh boy, I can totally understand why Rex fell for him because the accent was very attractive.
There was just one other dumb moment, which was at the end. But there was a problem in space and the only person who could fix it was Rex. So everyone else in NASA had no idea how to fix this problem. Even though they are the smartest people on earth, could someone without an education do it? I wouldn’t say that ruined the ending of the movie, but it was very unrealistic. They could have changed the ending to something more interesting. Maybe sending Rex AND Logan into space or something. Although, I also kind of liked the girl power moment at the end.
Altogether I enjoyed this movie a lot. If you like Emma Roberts’s other movies, like Wild Child, then this movie might be perfect for you. If you prefer more realistic and high-quality movies, then just skip this one. This is movie is fun, unrealistic, charming, and just entertaining. This would be the perfect movie for a girl’s night.
