I love the holiday season and especially Christmas. Everyone is in a festive mood and everything is decorated beautifully. Christmas Day is the one time of year that feels like a warm hug filled with lights, laughter, and little traditions that make the season sparkle. Whether you’re spending it with family, friends, or having a quiet solo Christmas, there are endless ways to make it feel special. Here are some lovely things to do on Christmas Day to fill it with joy, coziness, and connection.
Festive Things To Do on Christmas Day
🎬 1. Watch Christmas Movies
Nothing says Christmas like curling up under a blanket, sipping hot chocolate, and watching classic Christmas movies. From Home Alone and The Holiday to Elf and Love Actually, these films instantly set the festive mood. Bonus idea: make it a movie marathon! Don’t forget to prepare some Christmas-themed snacks before the movie.
🖍️ 2. Do Christmas-Themed Coloring Books
Coloring isn’t just for kids. It’s relaxing, creative, and a surprisingly cozy way to spend a quiet Christmas morning. Grab a Christmas coloring book, put on some soft music, and let your imagination bring snowflakes, ornaments, and Santa’s sleigh to life. I really love those easier, popular coloring books that are trending right now. I’m talking about ones like this or this.
🎲 3. Play Board Games
Gather everyone for some friendly competition! Whether it’s Monopoly, Clue, Scrabble, or a Christmas trivia game, board games are the perfect way to laugh, bond, and create memories together.
📚 4. Read Christmas Books
I love reading, and I love Christmas and those two combined are the best. This season, I’m reading several Christmas-themed romances like Merry Christmas, You Filthy Animal, Holiday Ever After, and A Heart for Christmas. But of course, you can also go for a thriller or any other genre you enjoy.
🍪 5. Bake Something Delicious
Fill your home with the smell of freshly baked cookies or gingerbread. Baking together (or just for yourself) is such a heartwarming ritual. Decorate sugar cookies, bake a cake, or try homemade cinnamon rolls for breakfast.
🎤 6. Have a Christmas Karaoke Session
Turn your living room into a festive stage! Sing along to your favorite holiday hits like All I Want for Christmas Is You, Last Christmas, and Jingle Bell Rock are always musts. Don’t worry about sounding perfect; it’s all about having fun. You can even set a dress code, maybe everyone wears an ugly Christmas sweater or a Christmas-themed costume!
🎶 7. Attend a Christmas Concert
If your town hosts concerts or live caroling events, go soak in the music and cheer. There’s something magical about hearing a choir sing Silent Night or watching an orchestra perform festive classics.
🌟 8. See the Christmas Lights
Bundle up, grab a warm drink, and go for a walk (or drive) to admire the Christmas lights in your neighborhood. It’s a simple but enchanting tradition that never gets old. Where I live, there’s one neighborhood that goes all out during the holiday season, and I always love walking around there in the evening. Everything is beautifully decorated and maybe even a little over the top for some people, but I love it.
🍽️ 9. Eat Out (or Order In!)
If you want to skip cooking this year, treat yourself to a special Christmas meal at a cozy restaurant or order your favorite comfort food and make it a relaxed, no-stress day. There’s no right or wrong way to celebrate Christmas. If you just want to chill and order food, do that! I know a lot of people who love doing absolutely nothing on Christmas Day.
🎄 10. Visit a Christmas Market
If there’s one open nearby, take a stroll through a Christmas market filled with twinkling lights, handmade gifts, and festive treats. It’s the perfect spot for soaking in the holiday atmosphere (and maybe grabbing one last gift).
🎁 11. Exchange Gifts
Whether big or small, heartfelt gifts are a beautiful way to show appreciation and love. Gather around the tree, share your presents, and take your time, because the joy is in the giving and the receiving. I have a few things on my wishlist for this Christmas, but honestly, I’d already be grateful for just one small thing.
☕ 12. Drink Hot Chocolate
Top it with whipped cream, marshmallows, or a sprinkle of cinnamon. It’s the ultimate Christmas comfort drink. Make it extra special by setting up a “hot chocolate bar” with toppings so everyone can create their own festive drink.
⛸️ 13. Go Ice Skating
End your Christmas Day with something magical, gliding across an ice rink surrounded by twinkling lights. It’s festive, fun, and the perfect mix of nostalgia and joy. It’s also a great way to be a little more active on Christmas Day! Afterwards, warm up with hot chocolate, then relax and watch Christmas movies when you get home. Sounds like the perfect Christmas Day to me.
