A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder
Pippa is doing her school project on the murder of Andie Bell. Andie was murdered five years ago and everyone, including the police, thinks that Sal Singh did it. Sal was Andie’s boyfriend and he had a message on his phone saying that he killed her.
But Pippa is not sure. She always thought that Sal was a really kind person, so she started her own investigation. But the more Pippa finds out, the more dangerous it becomes for Pippa especially if the real killer is still out there.
Review
Normally I only read happy romance novels. They just make me feel happy. But Good Girl’s Guide to Murder has been on my TBR list for a very long time. But then last week I found out that there will be a screen adaptation of this book very soon (1 August) so I really had to read this book now if I wanted to read the book first before seeing the series on Netflix.
Even though I almost never read books like this one, there is one thing I like about crime books. The reason why I still like to read a book like these is that you can still try to figure out who the real killer is. Most of the time, I am wrong about who the killer is. I would not be a great detective. But this time I did a pretty great job. I had my suspicions and I wasn’t too far off. Let’s say I was 50% right about the killer. But I am not going to spoil anything in this review, so I am not saying who I thought it was and why I am only 50% right about the killer. I just thought the police did a sloppy job on this case. I would assume they would have a lot of time on their hands since it’s a small town. But within days they just closed this case basically. That bit annoyed me a little bit.
The writing style is easy to read. I have to admit that I had moments when I thought this was the longest book ever. But I think it was just me. When you only have time to read in the evening (maybe for an hour), it can take a long time before you finish a book. So halfway through I thought that the book was never-ending. But in the end, I got my reading flow back and I finished the last part in one night. Mostly because I couldn’t stop reading. I had to find out who did it.
The main characters were likable and at one point I cried so hard. I am not going to why, but let’s I just love animals a lot. If you read the book, you know why I cried.
Of course, there are also a few characters who are less likable. But that is a must for a crime book, I think. You have to make a few characters likable, so you still don’t know who did it. But can I also say that the police did not do their job with the murder of Andie Bell? They see Sal Singh dead (not a spoiler) in the woods and he has this message on his phone and they immediately say that the case is closed. Did they ever consider that someone else killed him?
I really liked this book and I think I am definitely going to binge-watch the whole show next week on Netflix or as soon as possible. I want to know if they use the most memorable moments from the book. And it is just nice to read something else instead of a cheesy romance. Although, after reading this book I went straight for a romance novel again. One crime for now is enough for me.
There are more books in this series and I wonder what those books are about since Pippa solved this case. But I am definitely thinking about reading those books as well. If you like Young Adult Crime, this book is definitely a recommendation.
