The Map That Leads To You
Heather and her two best friends, Amy and Connie, are on a European trip. On the train to Barcelona, Heather meets Jack, and they are total opposites. Heather is the kind of woman who plans everything, she even created a full itinerary for their trip, which her friends think is a bit too much. Jack, on the other hand, just goes with the flow and has no specific plans. Still, they are drawn to each other. On the last day of their trip, the girls decide to go their separate ways: Amy wants to do the Camino trail, Connie plans to spend time with Raef, and Heather finds herself spending more time with Jack.
Review
I was not expecting another sad movie. Not too long ago, I watched My Oxford Year and that movie was so sad. But I thought this one was going to be different. To be honest, I only saw that it had come out on Instagram, saw the cast, and didn’t even do any research to see what the movie was actually about.
The setting is gorgeous. They spend time in Amsterdam, Paris, Barcelona, and other European cities. It’s truly beautiful. It gave total summer vacation vibes, and I loved it. The setting alone deserves extra points. The characters were likable enough, at least most of them. But I really didn’t like Jack. I also have to admit I didn’t really feel the chemistry between the two main characters. And since this is a romantic drama, that’s a big issue. Chemistry is necessary for this kind of movie. Like in Me Before You, the chemistry was amazing, but this just didn’t feel the same.
The movie itself was okay, I guess. It felt a little slow in my opinion. I found myself getting distracted by other things, like my phone. I even started scrolling through social media while watching, which isn’t a good sign. If a movie is good, you don’t want to look away. But of course, this is just my opinion. A lot of slow-paced movies have won awards in the past, and I didn’t like those either. I think I just prefer a faster-paced story, in both movies and books.
Now, back to Jack, because honestly, he annoyed me so much. He’s all mysterious and secretive. Like, I understand not immediately sharing that you’re sick, but when you’re spending so much time together and even kissing, I think the other person has a right to know. But he kept it to himself. He’s honestly the second-biggest reason (besides the slow pace) why I didn’t like this movie. Sorry, but even if you’re sick, that doesn’t give you the right to lie or be mean.
Overall, I was a little disappointed by this movie. I think it had the potential to be so much better. But in my opinion, it’s just not worth watching.
