Tis the Season for Revenge

Abbie just got dumped by her boyfriend Richard. They had been dating for four years and she was expecting a proposal. The only thing her boyfriend said was that she wasn’t serious enough for him. She is too pink.
So as revenge Abbie and her friends are making a plan. Abbie is going to sleep with Richard’s boss Damien and they will show up at the Christmas Party together. Of course, Abbie doesn’t tell Damien about her plan of revenge. He doesn’t even know that Richard is her ex-boyfriend. But the more time Abbie spends with Damien, the more she starts to think that this revenge plan is a bad idea because Damien is actually a nice guy and he doesn’t deserve to be used like this.

Review

This book starts with a short message about the movie Legally Blonde and that made me excited because Legally Blonde is one of my favorite movies. I mean, I read on Twitter/X that this book is giving Legally Blonde vibes but someone can make that up of course. This book has been on my wishlist for a while now and I am so excited to finally read it.

Let’s start with the things I liked about this book. It definitely has Legally Blonde kind of vibes. However, in the movie with Reese Witherspoon, she is trying to get Warner back and in this book, it is just about revenge. Abbie does not want to have Richard back, because she realizes that he has been an asshole all along.
I really loved the beginning of this book. It was really fun to read and I definitely did not like Richard at all, so I was ready for some revenge. The things he said to Abbie were horrible and I really wanted to punch this fictional character in his face.

The writing style is great. It was one of those books I couldn’t put down. I just wanted to keep on reading. And I know you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover, but looks very pretty. And it might have been one of the reasons why I wanted to buy this one.

It is supposed to be a holiday romance, but I read it when it was 27 degrees (81 degrees Fahrenheit). I mean, I love the holiday season, although we do not celebrate Halloween and Thanksgiving here. Our holiday season is basically just December with Christmas and another Dutch Holiday (that I don’t celebrate tbh). Did it really give me those holiday vibes? Maybe a little, but it’s not like I want to sing Christmas songs all day now.

However, there is one thing that was a bit weird. Richard called Abbie several things, including a whore. I don’t like that word at all. But Damien is supposed to be the better than, but I also thought he was a bit controlling and her used that same stupid word as dirty talk. That made me like the book less. I don’t think using that word for someone you love, isn’t appropriate. It is never appropriate! So until that point I wanted to give it five hearts, but now I am giving it a 4 out of 5. Dirty talk is one thing, but using those words as dirty talk is just a big NO for me.

Overall, I still liked the book. It wasn’t like the author used the word ‘whore’ in every single chapter. It happened a few times. I just quickly moved to the next page. And the revenge parts was just really fun to read. So if you have no problems with dirty talk, then this might be the book for you. Or just ignore it, like I did. I really liked the writing style and the whole plot, so I think I am going to check out her other books as well.
