Vacations Like This
Kimber is on a work vacation as a journalist and someone offered their cabin where she can stay as long as she needs. After being alone for three days, she hears someone inside in the kitchen. Someone broke in and is now trying to steal her food from the fridge.
Mack is a surveyor and is for work things in a small town. The people who hired him, offered him to stay at their cabin. But he is not alone when he arrives. He almost got attacked by a beautiful young woman. Turns out there was a mix-up and the cabin got double booked. They agree they can both stay at the cabin. It is big enough and there are enough bedrooms.
But it turns out that Mack and Kimber are here for the same thing: the new resort they want to build in this small town but Kimber and Mack are not on the same team. Most people are against it and Kimber is trying to investigate the situation while Mack is just there to ensure everything is right so they can start building the Resort.
Review
This book is apparently the fourth book in the ‘A Love Like This’ series written by Carina Taylor. But you can totally read them in any order because I did not have the feeling I was missing some information.
It was cute, funny, and easy to read. I thought the previous book (Good Girl Complex) I read was pretty fun, but I think I liked this book even better. From the start, Mack was hilarious and I think he was the perfect man. Okay, maybe he is not perfect, but he likes to care for anyone and he is funny. That sounds pretty perfect to me.
Kimber was different, and she liked to investigate things. She does not trust you without doing research first. But I thought they were really cute together. I was really shipping them together. But unlike most romance books I read, they don’t get together until the end. Most books follow the same storyline: they fall in love, are in a relationship, then they have a fight and then they make up again. This book follows a different storyline, which is nice. I mean, there were two moments between the two when they were still in the cabin.
Mack wanted to be with Kimber after she left, but he wanted to do something big. So I was kind of waiting for something totally romantic but I felt a little disappointed. It was not something I was expecting. I was expecting something bigger maybe.
But overall, the writing style was nice. It was definitely one of those books that is very easy to read and I liked the short chapters. I always dread reading books with super long chapters. I don’t want to stop in the middle of a chapter when I want to go to bed. So short chapters are definitely a big plus. The characters were likable and the setting was dreamy. I mean, a cabin in nature is the perfect location for a work vacation. The only reason I am giving this a 4 out of a 5 is because I have read other books that made me even feel more excited. But a four is still really good on my personal scale.
And then, of course, the biggest question: Will I also read the other books by Carina Taylor? I am not sure how I got this book. It might be because it was free at Kobo. Sometimes I find free books there and sometimes you will be so disappointed. But I remember I got free books on Kobo before and there is one book I still remember because I really enjoyed that one. My list of books I still want to read is already so long. So I am not sure, if I will read Carina’s other books soon. But I am definitely making a mental note. I liked this book enough, that I am curious about her other books.
