Wildfire
Russ and Aurora meet each other on a party and they have an one night stand and think they will never see each other again. But the next day, they see each other again at camp. Turns out, they are both working at a summer camp for children and now they have to work together all summer. But there is one simple rule at this camp: no fraternizing.
But they are getting closer fast because they have two things in common. First, they like each other a lot. Second, they both have daddy issues. Russ’s dad loves gambling and drinking. Aurora’s father does not really care about her. He only cares about himself.
Review
This is the second book in the Maple Hill book series and of course, I also read the first book, Icebreaker, as well. I read that book not too long ago actually. I only gave it two out of five hearts. I had to look it up, but apparently the biggest reason why I did not like that book was because it took forever to get to the plot. But you can find out why that book made me mad here.
Back to this book and honestly, I am happy I sort of forgot that I kind of hated Icebreaker, because I actually enjoyed reading this book. I think the biggest reason why I liked this one, is because it gave me those happy summer vibes. The setting in this book is perfect. It takes at a summer camp and they are spending a lot of times outdoors. That mixed with a romance story makes it the perfect summer read.
The characters are more likable than the first book, although Russ is very insecure, maybe a little too insecure to my liking. But the story is so much better than the first book. I think I remember that in Icebreaker the first 40-50% of the book was just smut. That wasn’t the case in this book. Yes, there is still enough spice in this book, but there is an actual story as well.
Another plus is that there are three!! (two of them are puppies) dogs at camp and they are the cutest. I am a big fan of romance which includes cute animals. Most of the side characters were likable. Most of the side characters were already introduced in the first book, but some of them are new. While reading the first book I thought that there were too many side characters and I still think that, especially because the author introduces us to other characters. I know, it can be realistic to have a lot of friends in real life, but when you’re reading a book with too many side characters, it can get a little bit confusing.
In my review of Icebreaker, I also mentioned that I thought Henry was kind of cute and I wanted to read his story. Unfortunately, we did not get a lot of Henry in this book so I am still waiting for his story. But at the end of this book in the epilogue, all of the characters are a lot older and all grown-up, including Henry. And the author shared a little bit of his future and now I really want to read his story.
Overall, this was a great book. I liked this so much more than Icebreaker. It was the perfect summer read because the setting is at a summer camp and they are spending time outdoors. But if you haven’t read Icebreaker yet, you have to read that one first. They mentioned a couple of things that happened in the first book. And I think it would make more sense to you if you also read Icebreaker, even though I did not like that book that much.
