Review
Last weekend I finally decided to watch Anyone but You. I’ve heard many mixed opinions about the movie, but I was still excited to see the movie. Everyone was talking about this movie last year when they were filming it. There was a lot of drama and gossip around this movie. But I am not going to talk about that today. I am ready to give my opinion about the movie.
The setting is beautiful. Honestly, I know they filmed this movie in Australia, but without the koala and the Opera house in Sydney, it could have been any American city in my opinion. Was it really necessary to film it in Sydney? It is still beautiful though. And the koala scene was pretty cute.
The main characters are Bea and Ben, and there is chemistry between the two. Which is essential for a rom-com movie. I liked the banter between the two. Although I have some issues with Bea. First of all, why did she sneak out in the morning after a great date? They were talking all night and she just left. I am happy she realized it as well, but by then it was already too late.
Honestly, I am just giving my personal opinion here but I think that Claudia (Alexandra Shipp) was stealing the show to be honest. I liked her energy and acting in this movie. And right now, I am not sure if it is a good thing if a side character is stealing the spotlight. Yes, it is great that the whole cast is amazing. But in my opinion, a side character should never steal the spotlight from the main character.
But I preferred Alexandra’s acting over Sydney Sweeney’s. It is the first time I see her acting in a movie or series. I know she is really popular right now. But the first few minutes of the movie were weak in my opinion. Her acting was not so great when she had a monologue. Together with Glen Powell (who plays Ben), she is a lot better.
The movie was still fun to watch though. I just had to go through the first 10-15 minutes and then it got better. It wasn’t my favorite movie ever. I like Glen’s other movie (Set it Up) better. But I still had fun watching it because I just love these kinds of movies with a happy ending. It was basically exactly what I expected. Although, I was a bit let down by Sydney Sweeney’s acting. I am not sure what it exactly is and why don’t like her way of acting that much. It is basically the reason why I am not giving this movie 5/5 but 4/5 instead (although I am leaning towards 3.5/5)
