A second later, she wakes up again, and suddenly everything is different she is the one getting married and Emma is the one with the crush on Paul. But is it everything she wished for? Are Paul and Maddie soulmates? Or is Maddie slowly falling for the photographer James Thomas?
Review
I was really looking forward to watching this movie. I’ve been a fan of Lindsay Lohan since Mean Girls came out. I always loved to watch a romance movie, so during the weekend after the movie came out, I had to watch it. And honestly, I had fun watching it.
The setting is just beautiful. I’ve never been to Ireland, but it always looks so beautiful. And in this movie, certain places looked like a fairytale. It was absolutely gorgeous. I was only surprised that it didn’t rain more often. I mean it is Ireland. There was just one ‘storm’.
The characters were likable. Maddie has had a crush on Paul forever but is scared to make the next move. And when Paul meets Emma, it is too late for her. Throughout the whole movie, you could tell Paul and Emma belonged to each other. Even when in the storyline where Paul and Maddie were getting married. Paul and James were both attractive, but maybe that was just me. I probably think that every man who has an English/Irish accent is attractive. But even though Emma and Maddie were sort of fighting for the same man, they were very supportive of each other. There were no bitch fights whatsoever. I liked that.
The story is just funny and enjoyable. When I googled the movie for more information, I saw that there were a lot of negative reviews. And on IMDB, people are saying it is predictable. But of course, movies like these are predictable. They are romcoms. The idea of a rom-com is that the two main characters end up with each other. This makes it predictable, but that does not mean the movie was bad. I had a fun time watching it. And I think with movies like these, you shouldn’t have high expectations and just enjoy. I just wanted to be entertained and I was! The chemistry between James and Maddie was definitely visible. The only thing I was expecting, when James and Maddie were stranded because of the storm, was that they had to share one room/bed. That was the one trope I was kind of missing. And maybe the ending was a little bit disappointing, but at the same time, it made sense. They did not really know each other. It was just the beginning of their love story. But I absolutely loved the banter between them.
Yes, the Irish Wish was a predictable and cheesy movie. But the scenery was just so beautiful. And I still enjoyed it a lot. Sometimes this is the kind of movie you want to watch. Just a fun and cute movie. Maybe not the best romance movie ever made, but still worth watching it. This movie is the perfect mix of Freaky Friday and My Best Friend’s Wedding.
