I don´t know what the weather is like where you live, but here it feels like the fall started today. It´s been raining all morning, it is so dark I have to turn on the lights during the day and I can hear the wind. I can safely say that I have a love-hate relationship with fall. Okay, maybe hate is a strong word. There are things about the fall I dislike. But I prefer to focus on the positive side of life. And there are still so many things to love about the fall. If you are struggling with the fact summer is really over now, don’t worry. I got your back. I will help you to start appreciating this season with this list.
Things to love about the fall
Nature is extremely beautiful
The fall is probably the most colorful season. The leaves are changing from green to all kinds of colors, especially during the golden hour (sunset) everything looks so pretty. And there are fungi everywhere. I definitely think that this season is very photogenic. It is the perfect season to go outside and take beautiful photos when the sun is shining.
Warm beverages
During the warmer months, I mostly drink just water. But now it is getting colder and I am slowly shifting from cold water to warmer beverages like tea and hot chocolate drinks. There is nothing better than coming home from work on a rainy/windy day and making yourself a nice cup of tea or hot chocolate. On the weekends, I like to go outside and when I get home I always make myself something warm. I can really appreciate those little moments.
Fall Fashion
This might be my personal opinion, but I think Fall fashion is the best. That is probably because I am one of those people who look best in warmer and darker colors ( I am an autumn/fall color type). So that is why I prefer shopping during these months. And Fall is not just the best because of the warmer colors, it is also better because of the items. I love a good comfy sweater during the colder months. And I am the biggest fan of those comfy thick socks they are selling during these months.
Cozy Season
Fall is the cozy season. It is not too cold to go outside, but people prefer to stay at home at night. And I agree. But I always make sure I turn my apartment into a cozy place. I like to buy candles and I get a cozy blanket I can use whenever I am sitting on the couch or in my reading chair (my Papasan chair). I also decided years ago to buy Christmas lights and hang them up on the wall. It gives a completely different vibe than just turning on a lamp. This looks super cozy.
Start preparing for the Holidays
Christmas might seem far away, but before you know it it is December. And October/November are really good months to start preparing for the holidays. I am talking about buying the decorations for your house. From my personal experience, most of the good stuff is already gone and sold out at the stores in December. And starting buying gifts for Christmas is a good idea as well because now you have the time. December is always really busy.
Reading season
If you are like me and like to read, you will know that this is the best time to read. If you want to start reading books, this is the time. Imagine yourself sitting in a chair or on your couch with a blanket, a cup of tea, and a book or your e-reader on a rainy/windy day. I really love those kind of days. It is super cozy and relaxing. The perfect way to forget all of your problems. And if I am being honest, I am also super excited because this is the time of the year that Christmas-related books are being released. I love those books. If you have no idea what you want to read, I have a whole page with reviews of the books I read. You can find the page here.
Halloween
We don’t really celebrate Halloween here in my country. I feel like Halloween is a typical American holiday. But a few years ago, I started my own Halloween tradition. I watched one Halloween-related movie on Halloween. Usually, I like to watch romance/comedy movies, but for Halloween, I make an exception. I also like to read a more scary or Halloween-related book that week as well. But maybe there is a Halloween party near you or maybe you can start your own Halloween Movie night with your friends.
Comfort food
During the colder months, you probably eat more comfort food, and so do I. And sure, most people think about Junk food when they think about comfort food but it doesn’t always have to be unhealthy. There are tons of healthy recipes for comfort food. Here in my country we like to eat mashed potatoes mixed with veggies (it is called ‘stamppot’). It is very simple, but still pretty delicious. Or I like to make lots of soup because that is really my kind of comfort food.
As you can read, there are so many great things to love about the Fall. And since you can’t change the season or the weather, it is better to embrace it and make the most of it. I think years ago, I really hated these darker months, but slowly I changed my mindset about it and now I can actually every single season. Every season is beautiful.
