Challengers
Tashi was one of the best tennis players in the world when she was younger, but then she got badly injured. Now she coaches Art Donaldson, who is also her husband. Art has been losing tennis matches for a while now and Tashi thinks it might be a good idea to do a challengers tournament, to gain some confidence. The only problem is that he has to face one of his ex-best friends and Tashi’s ex-boyfriend.
Review
I think it is fascinating that a lot of the time I watch a movie and like it, their IMDB is pretty low. But when a movie gets a pretty decent or good rating, I don’t like the movie that much. That happened this time as well. This movie gets a score of 7.5 on IMDB, while I am writing this. And I honestly don’t get why it gets such a high score.
First of all, the movie was way too long. It was over 2 hours of nothing in my opinion. There were barely any scenes that were enjoyable to watch. Maybe I would have enjoyed it more if the movie was a lot shorter. After watching for an hour, I was really bored. And the amount of slow-motion shots was just ridiculous. Every 5 minutes there was at least one slow-motion shot and it was totally unnecessary. The storyline was sometimes hard to follow because of all the flashbacks, especially in the beginning.
The characters were not that interesting. I only felt bad for Tashi (Zendaya) when she got injured. But for the rest of the movie, I just thought the characters were just boring and unlikable.
I know the movie is supposed to be a love triangle. Art and Patrick have been best friends but there is more going on between the two. Tashi is injured and is still obsessed with tennis and lives through Art. Art and Tashi have a fight with Patrick, but in the end, there is still tension between the two men. But the execution was so boring.
Honestly, I am disappointed. I remember I was sitting in the cinema for the Barbie movie and they showed a preview of this movie I got excited and I knew I had to watch this movie. It sounded really fun and I love to watch Tennis sometimes. But now I just wish I had not wasted my time on watching this movie.
Based on the reviews on IMDB, I would say that there are two groups of people: one group (I am one of them) thought the movie was so boring and the other group thought the movie was brilliant. Personally, I would never recommend this movie. My phone was more interesting than the movie. I wish I could say something positive about this, but I want to be honest in my reviews. This was one of the worst movies I’ve seen this year.
